Speaker Wiring and Mounting.....
Boy oh boy.Don't judge a book by it's cover bit me yesterday.I finally had some time to mount my fx's and run speaker wire and install a couple of audio wall plates.I had ordered my 12 ga. wire from Mono Price(1st and biggest mistake). My ceilings are 10ft. tall so code says there must be a firewall. They are usually at 8 foot.I cut my wire into lengths.I was running 4 seperate cables as I may go to 7.1 later down the road.WELL,this builder put the firewall at 5 feet so I could not reach it to drill out the hole to fit the wire run thru it.I look at the cable coax and it was too small as well. They drill those holes in the header just big enough for a single cable. The only other immediate option was to cut the sheetrock out at the firewall and drill it out then patch and paint.I had to go buy a roll of 16ga. wire and I was able to wrestle all the strands thru..Our heat index was 103 yesterday.I did not get out of the attic until 11:30.BTW,everything else was so easy after that.Putting those fx's up by yourself is a little difficult.I used the 2 ladder technique and it helped alot.Got to enjoy it last night and it really opened up the listening area. Now I know why those a/v installers want so much to do this stuff.Everybody have a great weekend.
