New video card advice

I need to replace the video card in my pc because the fan in the one I have now quit spinning. My current card is is an ATI Radeon 3650. I want something at least as good and preferably better but I have no idea what's decent and would appreciate some advice.

My only requirements are pci express 2.0, dual monitor DVI and HDMI support. I do not do any heavy gaming on this pc so I don't need top of the line but I would like something decent. Good bang for the buck type. Thanks for any advice

 If those are your only "limiting factors" you're dealing with, then money's your only issue. XP isn't a limiting factor.

If the only reason you are getting a new one you could save money and replace the fan. I picked up a geforce 9600 gso 768 mb from frys for $20 after mail in rebate a week or two ago and it does everything I need for a very favorable price.

I wish I could afford more but really no point since xp is my limiting factor right now.

The geforce only does hdmi through adapter and needs separate cable for audio so that won't work for me. I suppose I could replace the fan but then I would lose the rationalization to buy a new card. Plus I've already cooked this card to 107+ celcius a few times so I'm not confident of its longevity.

I'm looking at a Sapphire Radeon HD 5570 right now at Newegg for $64 shipped which looks like it will fit the bill.

It's an HP Pavillion m9400t elite, Vista 64, 2.66 Core 2 Quad, 4 gig ram, with a 400w PS, which I know limits me a little.

Getting an ATI 5570 might be a bit harsh on your PSU considering it's only rated at 400w....and it's a pre-built PC so those numbers might be a bit exaggerated (I always build my own).

Why not take a look at the nVidia GT240's?

I have one in my spare PC (only a 350 watt Corsair PSU), and for sh!ts and giggles I can run Battlefield Bad Company 2@1080 without problems. I use the good stuff for my other computer ;)

Nvidia GTS250 should give you tons of performance per dollar and run anything you throw at it.

I'm curious why you would say that. The spec sheets show max load for the ATI is 39w while the GT240 is 69w. But I also see the GT240 says min power supply of 300w while the 5570 wants 400w

Looks like a good card but only DVI output and I need a DVI/HDMI setup.

Yes, you may be in the market for a new power supply, fan and video card.
Newegg has bundles, so a redo may be in order, but some bundles are wicked cheap.
Are you signed up for all newegg email blasts ?

Me, I am just awaiting Madden 11, and I am going to get a PS3 for my Blu Ray play duties, as I am in a similar boat with stuttering Blu Ray playback, and a worse yet built in video card, so I would need a mother and another OS, so s_ _ _ w that.

I usually just go there when I want something I didn't realize they had bundles though, I'll have to look in to that.

Depends on how much youre wanting to spend.

    $70 - 4670
Solid little card. Uses PCI slot power. Will give playable frame rates at decent settings at 1280x1024 on with no problem but I wouldnt go much higher than that.

    $100 - 4850
Still a badass card. As good as the 5750 but $25 cheaper. Doesnt have DX11 but so what. Can hardly tell the difference between DX11 and DX10. Will give playable framerates at max graphic settings in most games at 1680x1050 and will handle 1920x1080 with lowered settings.

    $150 - 5770
Playable frame rates at max settings on any game at 1680x1050 and a lot of stuff at 1920x1080. Sips power.

    $200 - GTX460
Monster card for the money. Probably the best card on the market dollar for dollar. Overclock it and itll nearly match the 5850. Thisll max any game at 1920x1080 and a lot at 1920x1200.

    $300 - 5850
    Max any game at 1920x1200

    $400 - 5870
Max about any game at 2560x1600

    $600 - 5970
    God's own video card.

Here is a Guerrilla deal emailed to me today from newegg. It has a card and a power supply in it ( not sure if these will work for you, but you get the idea of the deals they have via email, anyway.

Neither of those cards will work for me but that's a great price on that power supply - thanks. I think I'll pick that up and wait and see if something comes up in the ATI 4850-5770 arena.

I've got my case open and a fan blowing and it's keeping the card running between 50-60, so I can afford to wait a little and see if I can snag a good deal on somethin.
