New (little) dining room project underway

First, pay no attention to the black floor, we are going to order dark wood flooring we just got tired of the old carpet so we ripped it out.

Onto the project. I wanted to add a bit of flare (separation) to the living / dining room so I thought I'd frame out the dining area with a few 4x4's. I'm in the process of distressing all the beams then they'll get several coats of black stain. I also have an black iron 10 candle chandelier I'm going to hang above the table. I ordered black drip candles for that.

None of the 4x4s are touching the ceiling, didn't want to risk messing it up. I'm hoping to get one coat of stain on it today.

Based on your current furniture position, I think you are going to soon wish that post wasn't there - hope it turns out for you :)

Here's a couple updated pics, and yes, we moved the table j allen. :)

Applied the fist coat of stain, and the last. I love the "Zars" brand, it goes on like paint, dries quick and is just amazing to work with. Hung the candle chandelier as well and re-arranged the furniture. It's turning out just as I'd hoped.

    Thanks opus.

Were slowly saving to buy the wood floor, dark bamboo. It'll cost about $1,200 for the materials. We should be able to install it ourselves. But our carpet was so old we had the carpet guys hall it all off for us when we carpeted our bedrooms several months ago. So, we get to live on concrete for a bit.

It looks very interesting but I'm wonderring if the wall color is a little dark given how dark everything else is and the ambiant light.

The house is quite dark, but it's what we love.

I'd go darker if I could get away with it but not sure if the family would dig it. My next goal will be to repaint all the white trim around the windows, doors and baseboards and go with a darker color, just not sure what color yet, I'm thinking black. But, I need to try it out first.

The general rule is to go lighter with color in a room with low ambiant light. That said, I understand that you may like darker colors. I personally think that you would be better to leave your current wall color over black.

I recently painted my place and opted for a lighter color in my computer room and a darker for the tv room.

Here is a link to what I did.

The current wall color is staying the same. But the baseboards, trim around the doors/windows and front door, that is all currently painted white will go black. Just the accents, no way could I paint the walls black.

Nice choice of colors there reno.

If you get tired of the wood, you could always put in a stripper pole.

Did I type that out loud ?

    It looks good.

Wood is always a good investment.

Haha, grey. My wife and I have very similar tastes, she really likes what I did. She's not to happy with the vampire theme I'm doing in my theater room though, but that's my room so she deals with it.
    That looks wicked cool, Ron.
Thank you. I plan to do more. I also have white'ish colored candles that drip red wax. Not sure how the family's going to like those, but I'll find out soon enough.
I guess if that one 4x4 that's in the middle of the room gets in your way
I purposely put the 4x4 there, I wanted something in the middle of the room to break it up, plus I think it looks really, really good there. Gives the room the separation it needed.

Here's a bit of an update.

I've painted almost all the trim black. The entire entry way is done, some of the baseboard in the livingroom and most of the trim around the window. I also added a few decor items around as well, and more is on the way.
