CAREFULL Photobucket.com Virus!

So far the last three times I've clicked to get link code from photobucket.com my virus protection program detects a virus threat.

HTML/Framer is what comes up. Don't know if it's the site that has the problem or if it's riding in from a server.

In any case my experience with my AVG is that when these occur, I need to do a virus scan and a spy sweeper because it seems that some of them get through especially the self replicating ones.

I do too Bro but between yesterday and this morning the last three times I clicked for link code I got the warning from AVG. Maybe someone is trying to hack my computer.

    I found this on the AVG Forums;

    http://forums.avg.com/ww-en/avg-free-forum?sec=thread&act=show&id=12983

There are several other links about this virus listed on the google front page search.

I got that message yesterday when I tried to go to an Amazon page. Never seen it before. Gone today.

John, did you run a virus scan and spy sweep afterwards? If so did anything come?

I'm away from my computer at home right now but when I left I had my virus scan running and had asked my wife to run my Webroot Spysweeper program when the virus scan was finished running and to leave the results up to I can check them when I get home.

Probably unrelated, but FWIW I had some trouble last week on one of the 'putes at home that runs Ubuntu, with Photobucket being redirected to someone's Twitter page - turned out to be a rogue, third-party cookie. Seemed to go away when I cleared cookies and the cache. Being a little more careful with accepting cookies now :-)

My place of employment posted a pretty significant warning on our internal home page re: viruses being sent via attachments from emails originating from social networking sites, such a Facebook, Twitter, Photobucket, and a bunch of other sites which I cannot recall.

Well the good news is my virus scan and spy sweeper came up clean, the bad news is this goofy virus doesn't seem limited to just photobucket.com.

I cleared all my temp internet files and cookies just in case.

Mark my spy sweeper usually warns me of threats pertaining to cookies. How can I be more mindfull of them and what would I be looking for? I use IE 8.

No. AVG is such a paranoid, demanding little ****, I figured that would be overkill. I'm not gonna be an enabler. ;)

I never click on the SHARE link; I go to the photo, right click & select "Copy Image Location" then paste it where I want. No issues from my end yet~

And I NEVER click on any links in Facebook unless it is one I know....

Got that one thrice yesterday. Youtube and photobucket twice. At first I thought it may be a false hit, but seeing these comments maybe not. Nothing since. There's an AVG version update if you manually update right now (there was, has gone auto now). Malwarebytes has found nothing as well as a subsequent AVG scan. When these kinda things happen, I generally wipe my restore points afterwards to make sure any replicators aren't hiding.
If there ain't no gold at the end of the rainbow, I'll settle for the pot.:D

Hahaha! LOL! True! However, when I contracted the Trojan Horse worm-koobface last month, AVG set off all kind of alarms and blocked it however, it was a self replicating virus and somehow got through AVG.

It took two days of running the AVG virus scanner and Webroot spysweeper to completely get rid of every remnant of the worm.

I don't either, however that Trojan Horse worm-koobface virus sends you a message from a friend who is infected and writes a message that is very pertinent to what you and your friend would talk about and them BAM! Nailed. I learned this the hard way. Now when I receive a link from a friend on Facebook, I always send them a message asking if they actually sent the link.

I have Norton on one, and Microsoft Security essentials on another.
Also, Spyware Blaster, Threatfire and Malware Anti Bytes, Adanced System Care 3 and Sophos Anti root kit for protections.
Other goodies: Smart Defrag, CCleaner and Revo uninstaller to name a few.

I get these from majorgeeks http://www.majorgeeks.com/page.php?id=20
    or CNet

Most of the freebie programs require manual running or updating.
Malware Anti Bytes is great at finding hidden stuff.

    Good luck

    I love viruses.

    That's how I pay my mortgage ;)

I've always sort of pictured two long lines of cubicles at some company in Redmond,WA. One row has folks writing code for an OS, and the other row is folks writing viruses for that same OS, for the antivirus industry to 'fix'.

What a great business model! Puts me in mind of a Dr. Seuss story called The Sneetches.

Wow how scandalous would that be! The OS company could take a percentage of the anit-virus & spy sweep companies. Oye Vey!
