Just received an e-mail stating that Gilmour would join Waters at an undisclosed(surprise) venue and perform Comfortably Numb (and maybe others) with the band.Just an FYI. Seems the two are "dangling a carrot"

i'd hate to buy tickets at 'speculative' prices, only to go home with no 'surprise' from gilmour....he should play the whole fkg tour and be happy..they also need to pay tribute to 2 band members that left us.

yep-- I've had my tix,, I think he should play the whole tour or nothing--maybe a "carrot" to boost already good ticket sales? still,, won't be the same as in the "old days/band"JC approves....he told me so. (F-1 nut)

Hey George -- I hope you get lucky (Atlanta, right?) Anyway, see my post (number #12) from yesterday for the story of how this came about (taken directly from Roger's facebook page):

true...i think gilmour has gotten even better as a musician...he's got killer tone, since he ditched the active pickups..and his chops both guitar and vocal have really lost nothing..so no compromise there..
if they can avoid the corporate feel........and play echoes....all will be ok;) -
good read -- Norm-- maybe they are realizing(like me) that we are not immortal,, and some things really are not important ,,, enough of my rant--:)JC approves....he told me so. (F-1 nut)

maybe after losing RW, they're realizing that PF just got smaller..all they have is themselves...mending fences..could make that black strat sing even more than usual

Yes, I think you're definately right (i.e. the immortal thing). Well, in my opinion, I think that despite the decades of bicurring Roger has felt a profound sense of regret for several (5 or 6) years now. He's really wanted to get back with the band...when you look at the 2005 footage of the reunited Floyd performing at the Live 8 show, Roger is just beaming. He couldn't be happier. Also, I was particularly struck by his gesticulations just after the performance: the way he was super enthusiastic to get the guys, especiallly David, back on stage for a group shot/bow.
David has been, until recently, much more weary of reestablishing relations (in that same footage from the Live 8 performance, Gilmour really looks nonplussed, kind of caught off guard as to whether this was just a one-off peformance at the urging of Bob Geldoff or represented something bigger, as it clearly did for Roger). For David, I think it was primarily done for a good cause, not a reunion persay.
Having just finished Irving Shaffner's excellent biography of the Floyd, A Saucerful of Secrets, I have to say that I can't really blame David too much for harboring resentment based on what happened in the past (even though personally, as a fan, I would have loved to see them reunited as a band before Rick's passing). The chapters covering the years 1979 to 1985 were particularly difficult to get through -- painful reading. I was only a little kid at the time and really had no idea of what went down. I've tried to be as balanced as I can in my assessment, but the record of Roger's behavior from those years (not only toward David but also Rick) is just plain abhorrent....especially considering the monumental achievements of the band in the 1970s.
Anyway, I am thrilled beyond belief that David is coming around. One of the most interesting parts of that Facebook message was that it was David, not Roger, who made the initial overtures for the charity peformance this time around. If The Wall is Roger's semi-biographic account, as much about his own sense of self-alienation as Syd's, then this improvement of relations with David represents the lifting away of one of the key bricks in Roger's personal wall.
One thing, however, which Roger is going to have to live for the remainder of his days is the specter of Rick. He's gone now...and there's no way Waters can atone for freezing him out, rejecting all of his ideas and basically kicking him to the curb like a stray dog.
There's my rant....:D2 Ch.

I'm very happy to hear that Roger and David are finally getting along. Forget about the whole "Pink Floyd" name thing....just go out and have fun playing music. As Phil Collins once said about playing music with Mike Rutherford and Tony Banks, "Love to play music with those guys....just not under the name of "Genesis". There's too much baggage that goes with the band's name." At this point, there's nothing left to prove for Roger and David. I think Rick's passing had a profound effect on those 2 guys.
