Any thoughts on LsiC for mains

Curious as to what people think of using two (2) LSiC's for the front speakers. Wouls it sound much different than using the LSi9's?

I would say they would sound ok at best. They are much different than the LSi9's in that they were designed specifically for the center channel role and the crossovers are more focused on accurate dialog reproduction rather than music.

I would not use them as fronts, especially when you can get a nice set of 9's for the same price or less.

I agree with Nooshin on this one.

Why would you want to use 2 center speakers as mains? Is it the size? Yo0u could always get some 7's or 9's and lay them on their side. I have seen people use a 9 as a center, but never center's as mains.

I've tried using a CSi5 on its side and it was an epic fail. The horizontal imaging was ruined, and the sweet spot diminished significantly.

On the other hand, I was playing with an LSi9 used as a center channel this morning, and it seems to image fine no matter what direction you orient the drivers/tweeters. I'm thinking the LSiC would work fine standing vertically, but I can't speak from experience.

He's wanting to have a unified stage turning the LSiC into an LCR configuration, but even people who use the LSiC as a center don't like it as much for the crossover the way one of the drivers is mostly stagnant.....

IIRC, a big if, a year or so ago someone on this forum, a knowledgable-sounding Polk employee, said something to the effect that dispersion of LSi9s is almost as great vertically as it is horizontally, so that a 9 on its side, tweeter up, would work pretty well as a center.

This appears to be the case from what I'm hearing with the LSi9. The CSi5's imaging flat out falls apart when set vertically....the LSi9, however, projects a surprisingly wide sound-stage no matter what direction you orient it. I only have one LSi9 for now, and was listening to it in mono most of the day today. Its amazing how a single bookshelf speaker can really feel the room. The ambient details really come to life and almost eliminate the need for surrounds
