corner bass traps

I'm going to build some corner bass traps and have been reading up. I have an unopened roll of r19 insulation I was going to use but have also seen where oc703 was used and another type that was cut into triangles. I can return the fiberglass. So my question is should I just return it and go another route?
Any advice on dos and dont's is greatly appreciated

The thicker the absortion material and larger the coverage area the more effective it will be to lower frequencies. The best way to get a lot of material into a corner is with the super chunk style of bass trap which is made up of stacked triangles of OC703 as you mention.
Heres a link to some small ones but shows the idea. http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?t=84121&highlight=corner+bass+traps -

None of the immediate building suppliers carry the OC703 or the Roxul mineral wool.
What would be some other alternatives? Would a foam board be a ok or am I better off just using some fiberglass batts?
I'm wanting to finance this project with the things I need to return to Menards.
Thanks -
Foam wouldn't be as effective. Use the fibreglass bats, see if they have any "unbacked", if not you can always remove it yourself."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche

Agreed foam is not what you want.
I built 4 "super chunk" style corner traps using mineral wool (Roxul) from these guys, they are in Southern IL, so I imagine shipping wouldn't be too terrible. They are great folks to deal with too.

Foam is fine if your dealing with hi frequency reflections/slap echos etc. but is not as effective down low.
I have heard it suggested that piling unopened bags of fibreglass (like your R19) in corners can be nearly as effective as super chunks, just very fugly. While the plastic is a reflective surface to hi frequencies ,low frequencies will pass through it and into the glass. -
I have these--and they have it in kit form IIRC--mine were already assembled--very good build and great CS

Building a pair of clones of these is one of my summer projects. http://stereophile.com/roomtreatments/1289phantom/index.html -

Home Depot carries this Roxul fire and sound insulation:
http://www.homedepot.ca/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CatalogSearchResultView?D=972190&Ntt=972190&catalogId=10051&langId=-15&storeId=10051&Dx=mode+matchallpartial&Ntx=mode+matchall&N=0&Ntk=P_PartNumber
I wonder if that would work well, they are fairly cheap. -

Yes it will work but it looks like you linked to HD Canada.Does HD in the US also carry it?
Good point, I cheked the US web site - does not seem to be there - it usualy works the other way around... -
I believe ROXUL to be a Canadian company so may not have as wide a distribution below the 49th parallel.

Psssst.;)
There are several companies across the US that carry it. -

Sorry guess I missed that:o One would think the likes of HD would also carry then. It's available in virtually every home improvement store in Ontario and probably Canada.
I know, you'd think so.....
I looked high and low locally, nada. ATS was about a 2 1/2-3 hour drive, so I road tripped it. Probably didn't save much over shipping, but they did help load my vehicle.:D -
