Looking for a turntable Rega P1?

Should I go with a Rega P1 or save up some cash and go for something more expensive like the Rega P2 +
I'd rather take my time and save up to have something that I won't have to swap out down the road. What are some thoughts? I've heard the Rega P1 can be upgraded (platter and twister clamp)

Yep save up and go better than entry level. Rega makes some really great tweeks and upgrades for their TTs that will bring you up to their higher end tables and worth every penny, but I think it wise not to start off with the entry level stuff . . . don't get me wrong they're not bad but . . . .

I just need a goal to work towards or some ideas what to save for. Any links or insight on what I will get out of waiting?HT and Music Rig

Takes at look at the links in this google search and get as much as you can out of it then PM me or post it publically and any questions you have will be discussed. Sound good? -
I was debating the P1 as well, because it would be my first table and I don't think vinyl will be my primary source (for a while at least; too expensive for a college kid). Since then I got a GryoDec (needs work), but if you get a Rega Px lemme know what you think!- Jeremy

The cost of vinyl can be offset by the abundance of free LP's out there. I am picking up 500 this week for free!:p:DThe Gear... Craigslist is a vinyl-lover's friend, along with Goodwill and garage sales. If you score something good from it, I call dibs for providing the tip.:p;)
Craigslist may be a great way to score a better table than you could ordinarily afford as well. I found my formerly new-in-the-box Yamaha PX-3 that way. I would need to spend at least $1500 to find a table that would come close to this one for build quality and performance. Craigslist cost??? $250 plus gas.

I use www.craiglook.com
With this link, craigslist opens up and is as easy to use as Ebay.

If you are going entry level, Rega would be my bet. I appreciate that they're assembled in the UK and not China; impressive for entry level equipment.- Jeremy

Rega makes very nice gear. Really the P1 is a decent table at a decent price. It pretty much is going to all depend on what your budget is and how far you want to go in their line up. I went with a Music Hall 2.2LE when I bought my table and now I am looking at upgrade already to something else so it can help to wait some, but if you think you would be happy with it now there is always audiogon to see if you can find a nice one at a used price of the higher model, possibly saving some money in the long run as well as getting it for a lower price and getting the best of both worlds, lower cost/better TT.

By the time you upgrade a P1 you could easily have 7-800 bucks into it and that is if you do not upgrade the cart in the original purchase. Step up the cart and you are well over a grand and you have a heavily tweaked P1 with nice cart and the resell would not be that great IMO.
For the same money you could look at the Marantz TT-15 made by ClearAudio used. The cart list for $895 alone and no upgrades required except a twister clamp.
They can be had for around a grand all day.

That didn't take long! LOL!!! -
Yeah Joe lol I sent Quest for Sound an email for how much I could get in for trade on possibly moving up to a Music Hall 5.1. However not sure if I want to try something different yet though. So the search is on...:D

Thanks for some new ideas. Its just a daunting task for me to start with zero knowledge of the players out there. As with everything in the audio world, listening for myself is the best way to learn. It's a bit easier to do that when I can narrow down my search. Thanks!
Everything I've read on the Marantz TT-15 seems awesome. Still doing a lot of research though. I'm afraid that some of my older/dirtier records could dammage such an expensive player.HT and Music Rig

Chris give me a call later, I'll be home after 2:00 PM, we'll discuss what you have in mind. You never know a VPI might be in your future!;) -
