I'm looking to buy the front speakers (right, left, center) of the Polk RT 5000 system, &/or the front (left, right) speakers of the SRT system.

If anyone has either of these (in Black), or knows where I could find these prized speakers I would appreciate the feedback.

Thanks in advance...

Saw a complete RT5000 set for $2600 on Agon recently, but I just checked and the listing is gone. Too much money, anyhow.

Took me three years to find mine.

Yeah, I saw that posting as well but i couldn't get a hold of the seller in time before the ad was taken down.

.....and your right about the price. He would have had to come down a lot to make a sale with me.

I guess I'll have to keep looking.........something is bound to turn up sooner or later.

    Thanks for the response.

Well I think I've done the impossible....
    I found the entire RT 5000 system locally,and for a decent price ( $1500 OBO ).:p

There's just one caveat (or 2).....they are in Brown and my entire setup is in Black. Also one of the surround speakers has a depression like mark (about the size of an eyeglass lens) on the top of it. It doesn't seem to have penetrated the cabinet, but it is quite noticeable.

I contacted the seller and he says that all the speakers and amps work and sound perfect. (even the 1 with the blemish).
Considering what he says is true, then my only problem is the color. I've never heard of anybody painting speaker cabinets they purchased, and not constructed themselves, so I don't know if that would even make sense to do.

I know how hard it is to find these speakers, so I guess I have to decide if I should take the chance of waiting to find them in Black or just buy these and take a quick trip to Home Depot for some paint.

    Decisions.....Decisions.....

If anybody has any suggestions/input on this.....please chime in.

    Your probably right....

I think I'll call the seller tonight and set up a time to demo them first.
Then I'll just do a search on how to paint pre-built speaker cabinets and call it a day.

    Thanks...

Good luck. They are hard to come by. Took me 10 years to find a pair of SRT's in good condition. Just sold my black RT3000's and CS1000P 2 months ago. I may be selling 2 pairs of my black FX1000's in the near future and replacing them with in-walls. I'll know better after I get moved into the new place and start playing with the theater room so if you're interested, let me know. I'm in So Cal as well.

One thing to be aware of on the RT3000's is that given their age, you may find that the amps will go out on you. Both of mine did and in both cases, it was the capacitors which wear out over time. If you do buy those and end up needing some repair, the Polk Service center is nearby and I also have a local contact who does repair work on the side who replaced the last set of caps for me at a very reasonable price.

Thanks for the info & the offer.
I already have 1 RT 5000 set that thankfully has not gone out on me yet, however if I am ever in need of servicing it is good to know that there is a local solution.

I'm not sure about the amps -- mine are 10 years old, and still going just fine.

Sadly, I have a rosewood RT5000 set that doesn't fit into the 1920s-era living room in my new place in the DC area, and so I'm coming to the conclusion that I should sell them. I don't think this helps you in SoCal, but I'm hoping to find a Polk afficianado locally to sell them to, rather than some random person on craigslist.

I would NOT paint them black, or any other color. I just don't think it will take, and won't have the woodgrain that I think the black ones did. But I'm not a painter, so who knows?

That's definitely low given that shipping is included. Shipping will run a couple hundred bucks. However, look at the damage on the FX1000. That explains a lot and IMO makes them worth a couple hundred bucks less than what his BIN is at. I think a complete set in good condition is worth in the neighborhood of $1,600.

Thanks for all the responses and links......

    Just to update everyone...

This past Sat. I picked up the RT 5000 system for $1360 from a local seller and everything works well.
I found this deal from varying my search terms on as many search engines, forums, and online classifieds as I could find until I ran across this link:

    Polk RT 5000 sale

The seller was only a quick 1.5 hour drive from my location, the price was agreeable & now I have 2 RT 5000 systems that I plan on running in an eventual 11.2 configuration.:p

I still hold out hope of finding a local seller willing to part with 2 SRT main front speakers but until then I'm good......for now.

Everyone has been very helpful here (good forum) and I hope to run across some of you SoCal members if/when we get together this fall.
