Anyone have experience with any outdoor speakers? I'm looking at the Atrium 7's, but I really have no idea what I need. 1 pair or 2 pairs? It's for my patio.

Here's a picture I have of the patio, looking at mounting them right up top against the house:

How far out will the sound travel?

Any ideas/suggestions?

I have the 4s and they sound great. As far as how far the sound will travel will depend on how much power you feed them and how loud you turn them up.

You might put a pair up againest the house and another pair on the outer side of your patio if you want to really hear them in the back yard.

Oh yeah, welcome to Club Polk.

What are you going to feed them with ?

I bought a vintage Harmon Karden about 40wpc that feeds a pair under my deck and a pair on the other end of the year by the pool.

I can drive either pair or both pairs at the same time.

I'm getting a real good deal on the Atrium's so that's why I'm looking at them. If your 4's sound great then I would assume I should be happy with the 7's. But as far as what I'll be powering them with is another story....I have an older Pioneer basic receiver that I figured I'd use. I'll try and dig up the specs tonight. I don't want to underpower them too much.

I did a few searches and couldn't find much info on the 7's so that's why I joined. I've also been looking at the outdoor Klipsch speakers, but maybe that word is banned around here. :D

I suspect the Pioneer will serve you well. My HK is a early 70s receiver and drives my 4s just fine.

I'm using the Atrium 65sdi's which are a very similar older model to the 7's, I power them with a 95wpc receiver and they sound very good. For your size patio I would use 1 pair keeping them about 10' apart.
To answer your question about how far the sound will travel, Turn the volume up and the sound will carry.....and sound good for 75' to 100'.

The Atrium7's are very nice. One pair should suffice. Happy listening.

If you will have people sitting at the table while others are in the yard, don't hang them too close to the table. The problem is that in order to hear them in the yard, it will be too loud for the people at the table. This has been my experience anyway. YMMV.

Having a pair of Atrium 65's, I agree that one pair of 7's will be enough.

BTW, nice covered patio you have there.

Try the Polk Ebay store and see if you can find a pair of Atrium 60s for cheap. I scored a pair and they are very nice. For your area 1 pr will be way more than enough.

Thanks, but I'm getting a way better deal than that. ;)
