i have 8 months.....yes 8 months to pick my setup..lol i do have a sony 46" 240hrtz (with old blu-ray) but want 60"+ and dont like the 3-D TV.
No idea about power? as in the receiver 5.1/6.1/7.1 i like the 5.1 do to the fact that most movies come in it and you nvr see 6.1 or the elusive 7.1

How is the room laid out for your setup?

Where will your listening spot be in relation to the side & back walls?

If you want us to help spend your money, tell us more on what source components you have now, if any.

Do you have a Blu-ray player?

Do you have a CD player, or turntable, or do you stream music files from a PC?

Are you more of a movie guy and don't really care about music?

hmm. ok, the room is 22wX13dX9h with a waffle ceiling.

listening spot will be center of room, with TV (65") on the wall in center of the 22ft wall (above fireplace).
i have started with the speakers.

    RC-LCR center

looking to start with all new components.
it is for movies mostly but i do enjoy room filling music....so best of both worlds.
the room is on the mainfloor and will be the source of sound when ppl are over.
i do have 8 months to shop around....looking for the best i can afford.

So your layout will be tv along the 'long' wall (22ft) and your chair or couch will be 6 ft away with 6 ft behind it to the back wall? (You said that the listening spot will be in the 'middle of the room'). Or will your listening spot be up against the back wall so that the tv is 13 ft away?

So, it looks like there is no 'back wall' as your HT setup will be going into the living room.

At 10ft away, I'd go bigger on the HDTV, 60".

With no back wall, I'd stick with a 5.1 setup.

I would wall mount the HDTV for a clean look.

Get a nice cabinet to go underneath, put the Center speaker on top.

Buy the Oppo BDP-83 bluray player to play blu-ray discs, cds, dvds.

Get a Pioneer AVR - one of the new Elite SC-35s.

I'm partial to Epik subs - maybe get a Sentinel. But HSU or SVS or Elemental Designs would be good as well.

Spend the rest on good HDMI cables, interconnects, and speaker cables.

oh, sry i am going to ues the dining room/living room as my HT room, not the great room.
my thinking in that was it would hold the sound better for movies but still allow it to fill the home with music. would this make it any better over the great room?

    thank you for your help!
im going to go to Future Shop and check this stuff out tonight!! they have the pioneer ICEpower 7.1 (sc-9540) on sale for $1300 what do you think about it?

In that case I would still do what Erik said.

Place the TV on the long wall mounted and place the components underneath.

Placement of the surround speakers may be tricky.

If you are buying your home new, can you contact the builder about adding a dedicated 20amp power circuit in the living room to power your HT Center?

I did that with my home builder.

You may want to revisit how you layout your speaker placements for the surrounds. Maybe consider some in-ceiling speakers? The side walls are pretty far from your couch - you may get better 5.1 results if the surrounds are closer to the couch and in the ceiling?

And if your contractor is flexible - get him to install wiring now in the ceiling.

    Just tossing out some ideas.

i went with the waffle ceiling in this room with 9 pot light, so ceiling speakers are out. they will let me go in a pre-wire the room :) i did get the 200 amp service, will this not do the job? i am blind when it comes to HT....i am coming from a HT in a box setup lol

My suggestion for the circuit was not the service to your whole home, but rather to run a dedicated 20 amp outlet right at the point where you think your Home Entertainment rack will be for your HDTV and equipment.

A dedicated circuit ensures you aren't sharing another outlet for say a floor fan, space heater, or anything else that would mean sharing power. As you start adding in components they will draw more and more power. Having a dedicated circuit brings some peace of mind for having enough power to feed your HT setup.

oooooooooooooh....ok, i will ask about it...im sure it wont be an issue. the upgrade from 100 to 200 amps was 500 so this would be like 100 upgrade if that.

Chad at Epik is a good guy, he does have help in Customer Service as well - I'd give them a call - quicker than an email.

Sometimes work gets in the way... :D

    oh man.........
At this time, we only sell to the 48 continental US states. The reason for this is that we can't support or guarantee warranty for product in another country or continent. If a component in your subwoofer needs to be replaced, it may cost more to ship it to you than the subwoofer itself costs. We hope to change this as soon as possible, but we're afraid, it will still be quite some time before we ship elsewhere.

The most commonly recommended method of connecting your sub to an HT AVR is with an RCA/RCA cable; sub output on the back of the AVR to the LFE input on the back of the sub.

    How much you got? :D

Lots of folks will recommend Monoprice for budget cables that will do the job nicely.

I like Audioquest cables - they have a decent priced sub cable, Sub-x.

    ^^^^^lol.

that is the best answer so far. It really does depend on how much you want to spend on cables. I would start with monoprice. It will get everything connected to start with. Then you can start looking into the other cables that are out there. Considering that you are asking about cables I would conclude that you do not have an opinion on them as of now. Get the monoprice first. Then look into the others.

So you plan on running all of your speaker cables behind the wall to a terminator plate?

Or are you going to run cable directly from the AVR to your speakers?
