Audiogon Bidding

I have never used the bidding system on Audiogon. What's the best way to bid on an item there? I know they have their own Proxy bidding system just like Ebay, but can one use a service like E-snipe with the same results as you would get on Ebay.

I'm bidding on a pair of tubes and I really need to make sure I'm doing it correctly. Any tips greatly appreciated.

No, they are true auctions. As long as someone keeps bidding, they will keep extending the auction to give bidders a chance. Best bet is to just bid the amount you are willing to spend. I'd probably wait until sometime in the last hour, but don't bother trying to wait to the last minute or anything.

So the "time left" in the auction isn't the true time left? Or does that number change as bids are added?

So I should just use their proxy system with my maximum bid I'm willing to pay and hope I win?

Bid at the last minute, watch the auction's time extend, then hope no one else bids.

I've used it once, wouldn't use it again unless it was something I really wanted.

They are more obscure tubes I'm bidding on that aren't FS too often. They shouldn't go for too much as they are old computer tubes, but they are in demand in the right application. I already have 2 prs but I thought if I could get these cheap it would be worth it to have a 3rd since I like the way they sound. But I'm not paying top $$$ for them.

So Mike, are you saying not to use the proxy system and just manually bid at the last minute?

    Heiney -

I've seen auctions listed as - OT - Overtime, so they do extend. I can't comment on bid proxy's.

Bid the top proxy you want to go on the tubes. If there is any active bidding in the 5 minutes prior to the bid closing then time is extended to allow any interested parties to continue to bid. As long as there are active bidding the time continues to be extended until the activity stops for a least five minutes (not exactly sure on this time frame). Just be aware that if you bid in the last minutes this opens up additional time for others. You cannot bid at the last moment and have your bid be the last because time runs out.
