What pairing of center and fronts will work?

Hi-
Just a quick question that I need an answer for. For space reasons I can only fit a CS 1 or CS10 in my Home Theatre System. The CS2 or CS20 are just too big. I want to purchase 2 new fronts that go with the new center channel and really like the Monitor 70's from all I've heard, but I am aware because of the size of the cones that the Monitor 60's are a better fit. But will the 70's still work? Is the difference between the CS1 and 2 so vast that running the 70's instead of the 60's will make the sound unbalanced? I should mention that I will be using a Polk sub with whatever fronts I buy. Someone suggested that running the Monitor 60's with the sub is very similar to what the 70's would sound like but I wanted a more informed opinion. Thanks.

If you're running HT then yes the M-60s and the CS-1 can hang together...but even there the CS2 would be prefered! The reason is that more than half of all surround info is carried by the center channel so that it is FUNDAMENTAL in a HT system. However, you can 'get by' by turning up or boosting the CS1 with your AVR. It still won't be a CS2 but it should be OK with M-60s and GOOD SUBS!!

The only 'real' advantage of M-70s are if you have a very BIG room or you play a lot of 2 channel music. That would be my main consideration for going with M-70s...which, in fact, I do own!

Though not my PRIMARY system...it is nice to thow on a CD and play it with the massive Onkyo in PURE DIRECT with the M70s from time to time!

    Hope this helps?
