You just can't do eBay anymore. Ever since the feedback change, I've gone from 98.8% positive, to 90% positive as of this morning. I've got buyers receiving their items, better than described, and sometimes even with an extra 'goodie' in the box, and they leave a NEGATIVE feedback. I've been on ebay for 10 years, it's horrible now.
All I know is I've made a little 'poopoo' list, of all the names, addresses, and phone numbers of the yahoo's.

It will get worse as the economy falls further. Buyers will be second guessing their purchase or even try to get something for free. Add in the issues with the delivery systems and it will be very difficult to meet Ebay's requirements. I feel for you.>

Sorry Russ, that sucks. Not an Ebay seller myself, so I'm not as aware of the issues sellers face in light of the new(ish) feedback rules. It never did smell right, though.
It might feel like pissing in the wind, but if you can take the time to write Ebay to logically discuss the flaws from your perspective, it will at least add to the list of complaints I'm sure they're receiving and hopefully some additional change can be made to make the policy work better for sellers.

That truely sucks Russ. I stopped using ebay (before the fiancial down turn) since they changed thier format on bidding person's screen names.

Russman - 98.8% isn't very good and I've never seen someone with a 90% rating. I've also been on eBay for about 10 years. I'm not some big "power seller" or something but have consummated 100's of eBay transactions and maintained a 100% satisfaction rating.
Rather than blaming eBay you may want to re-examine your trading practices. I can see if maybe you've done 10 transactions and one jerk stiffed you. But if you trade extensively and have a 90% rating, I'd say it's time for some introspection.

What in the above did you misread to make that statement? 98.8% isn't very good!?! Plus I've dealt with Russ many, many times and he ALWAYS put some extra surprise goodies in his shipments. Seems to me the 1.2% negatives were people who aren't satified with anything. Maybe their box got dirty during shipment and they didn't like it! -
I can see that, and I don't claim, nor ever have sainthood. Sure, I've shipped late, I've dropped the ball on occassion, but at the end of the day I always go the extra mile to make sure everything is right for the buyer, beit here, ebay, a garage sale.
I just don't get a buyer leaving negative feedback, when he / she got what they paid for, that's all. It just has a mean spirited feel to it, they probably wouldn't have done it with the old system - but now, with complete immunity, why not blip someone, right?

as much fun and profit as it used to be.. i don't sell on Ebay anymore. and rarely buy anything of value over $50 anymore. not worth it. I think if I'm looking for something of non stereo nature.. i can now find it myself for the same prices as Ebay sellers.. and some times with free shipping.

Guess I am lucky. I have been on Ebay for many years with almost 1000 transactions. Still at 100 percent rating. There have been some negative incidents but I have been able to work things out with the other people, so far anyway.
The reason they changed the feedback policy is because sellers were leaving negative feedback in retaliation for receiving it from the buyers, even though the buyers had done their part. Now the shoe is on the other foot in a sense. I figure they will change it again one day when enough people **** about it. Who knows what they will think up. -
I used to sell refurbished antique telephones on ebay. So I bought and sold a lot of stuff. As a seller I couldn't stand to have one negative (I'm still 100%), so I hated being held hostage by crappy sellers. I knew full well if I slammed them with a negative that they deserved they'd slam me back, even if I totally met all my buyer obligations. The new policy eliminates that problem.SystemLuxman L-590AXII Integrated Amplifier|KEF Reference 1 Loudspeakers|PS Audio Directream Jr|Sansui TU-9900 Tuner|TEAC A-6100 RtR|Nakamichi RX-202 Cassette

Perhaps not buying it to begin with was was better idea?
Sorry, couldn't resist! But here are a lot of crazies out there.
After doing some craigslist stuff recently, I really hate the idea of doing
much on ebay. People are a trip. It's gotten to the point that the only
communications provided on ebay now are the automated ones.
And real emails, including the delays in " normal" transactions
are seen as suspect. Many normal sellers can't move as fast as
the mass liquidators and the local scavengers that buy cheap pallets
of stuff to resell, or the craigslist lowballers. They have made it a business
and run through a buttload of sales. I would have a tough time getting
set up for all that automated response and shipping info."The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others. But it does me no injury for my neighbour to say there are twenty gods, or no god. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg." --Thomas Jefferson -

+1
I've received goods from Russ late, but the difference is that people here know each other a bit and understand that stuff happens. I, of course, had no problem with it. Ebay - it's a crapshoot. I've been on their for about 10 years also, and my score is 26 - that shows how much I use it

Happy Birthday. -
The thing is, the floating 12 month feedback rating. If the percentage was calculated off ALL my feedback, it would be ok.
Example, you sell 10 items, only 5 buyers even bother to leave feedback, and 1 of them hoses you - you're now sitting at an 80% rating - regardless of feedback outside of the past 12 months.
Again, not the end of the world, and I understand the need for buyer confidence for the system to work, but at the same time, I'm not amazon.com, I'm just a guy who flips / sells things from time to time. I've had people ask for tracking info HOURS after payment, and file non receipt claims within 48 hours of paying.
I finally went ahead and got a debit card for the paypal account so I could ship without having to wait the 3 to 5 days for the money to hit my checking account.
Cheers,

Russman, you may have figured out your own problem per the post above. You've "shipped late or dropped the ball on occasion." It's not just about getting what you "paid for." It's about getting it on time, as described and communication. With a 90% feedback rating people maybe don't think they're getting that from you?
Also, as a moderator of trust representing Polk Audio I would suggest this should be something you keep quiet rather than broadcast it on the board. eh? (duh):rolleyes: -
Nah, I've got nothing to hide, and the membership here knows that, I was just posting my thoughts on my experience with the eBay system. I'm not confused, or mad - I know and accept responsibility for my actions, why wouldn't I? I've made 6 sales here on the board since I posted the initial thread. I hope to make 6 more by EOB tomorrow. I know if I handled those in question differently, I wouldn't be making this post, I'm a big boy, I can accept that.
My thoughts and opinions don't reflect those of Polk Audio. As far as moderation, I just take care of spam, and the obvious infractions, I make no judgements on banning or otherwise, I try to moderate with moderation, not itimidation. Sure, I am a moderator, but I'm first a Polkie, just like everyone else.
Cheers,

Hey Russman I've tried to call you out and you won't take the bait :D
I respect that a lot ;)
But 90% on eBay is pretty bad. You're probably a good dude but not sure how you pulled that off.
Take care, good holidays, Chris -

I'll take it.
You buy on ebay, and they send you a shipping info in about
30 minutes. Of course, NOTHING HAS SHIPPED. But this is the kind of stuff the big volume guys have down pat. A lot of automated fluff, poor packaging,
and if anything goes wrong that's UPS causes, good luck.
Just in case you're wondering, many of us here have dealt with Russman
in gear trades. EBAY ratings are all about rating people we don't know.
We know Russman. And there are many here that wouldn't touch
EBAY with a 10 foot pole for quality audio products."The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others. But it does me no injury for my neighbour to say there are twenty gods, or no god. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg." --Thomas Jefferson -

Ebay is still sort of a strange, alien system to me. I've had nothing but bad experiences with actual retailers (excluding company direct pages), and nothing but good experiences with individual people. Sure, it took the individual people 3 days to send me tracking info, but it was accurate tracking info, not just 'here's the number on the shipping label we printed out and won't stick on for a bit.'
I always make sure to leave positive feedback after a positively concluded transaction. I really dislike systems that don't allow for longer descriptions though. I may give someone 5 stars, but want to explain what wasn't quite up to snuff in writing, even though it wasn't enough to detract from the their overall rating. Ah well.
edit: 200! woohoo! -
I had 1200 feedbacks on high end stereo items and later watches in the $1000 to $15,000 range, my biggest month was $165k that was wire and speakers. I ate little burns here and there and didn't stress over it, the paypal hits got worse and worse where there was no attempt to protect the seller against blatant buyer ripoffs so I went for a period refusing to take paypal.
Now the paypal forced use is an anti trust issue I am making a political case for and finding senators to author the legislation rejecting that forced use of a fee attached payment which is a banking trust issue.
It is my premise that Ebay is an example of one of the best examples of dismal customer service and declined revenues in the US in history. The only thing saving the business is foreign markets going through new growth. Ebay should be vastly bigger with reduced fees as they got bigger, not the constant increases of fees in such an insidious manner as they have done.
Their greed and incompetence is Meg's legacy, not the success she wants to run on for governor, I was writing a book on the disaster that is Ebay that was almost finished but it trashes the incompetence of their management so bad that it gets too closely tied to their CEO now that she is running for office, publishers won't touch it the way it was written for fear of libel issues.
Whew, glad I got that off my chest,You aren't done with wire and ready for upgrades and other tweaks until you are totally done with wire.
