Now Jesse, and Ray or anyone else that wants to chime in do so...

Since I have been here there is a lot of talk about the two versions 2.3/2.3tl 1.2/1.2tl so on and so on, And it seems to get people that have the standard version (non tl) some what unhappy that they don't have the tl version or can't upgrade them to a tl version without it costing a lot of money..

Well I have had my ears on all 4 versions, and even though the RDO-198's are a little more refined the RDO-194's sound awesome as well...

Here is all I'm getting at with this post, and that is those of you that don't have the tl version of said speakers is that even the non tl version's "KICK ****" really don't worry about it.. do the up-grades you can (crossover work get the RDO-194's and be happy... The speakers you have are just as fantastic as the tl's IMO..

And really where are you going to get a better speaker for the price...

Enjoy the MUSIC, Better yet Enjoy what you HAVE!!!!!

That is all,,,

Larry...

Sometimes it's not the kill, it's the thrill of the chase. I had looked at some 1.2s local, but they were like $1800. I decided for my room size, the reasonable course of action was to TL mod my 2Bs. Yet, before I got the parts ordered, I found the 2.3s on CL for $300 and rushed to get them. I do like the added base even tho I can tell they are leaking by the the passive push test. And there are some modded 2Bs in the FS section as the owner went to SRS 2s I think.

Some things are just emotional I guess is my point. I hope to keep my upgrade monster in check after getting the 2.3s updated. Thanks for sharing your listening opinion of the 2.3 versions!

Well that's good enough for me Larry...I'll be dropping a pair of RDO-194s into my 2Bs on my return....the crossovers though...really need to be done by someone who has more "shop" expertise than I....remember I was the guy who was bored 'senseless' by shop but loved his Math and Science classes?? Although I do ENJOY watching 'others' do this WORK! It would bring me almost no personal joy and probably give me a heart attack worrying over...have I soldered correctly, is it wired properly...have I matched the caps and resistors with the correct values and on and on and on...when I'd much rather be listening to the speakers, instead (already modded!).

Okay, I with you Larry that SDAs kick butt. I've heard 2.3TLs and they are superb especially Jesse's, the wizard has done something special to those bad boys and they are so refined. However, do the 2.3 with the donut drivers, even with RD0s and crossover upgrades sound anywhere near as good as their TL counterparts? I can't imagine that they would. I believe they would sound great but not as good as the 2.3TLs.

    Someone please clue me in.

I'm gonna gonna go out on a limb and say that given the differences, tweeters and drivers ,the speakers would sound different,,,not necessarily better, but different,,, I have spent more time with the tl version than the 2.3,so I prefer the tl's,,however I could live with either one,, I guess the point I'm trying to make is,, they are different,,,, better?? the listener has to decide.

BTW-- I think that any "rational" speaker would sound pretty magnificent in Jesse's rig,, remember ,,source, source, and source,,isn't that what he always says.;)

Hi, Pete here. I'm new to this post. I have a pair of monitor 10A's & SDA 2B's. I did a crossover upgrade to the 10's and really like the result. Could someone be so kind & tell me the aforementioned upgrade available to the 2 B's? There is just something lacking with these especially in the bottom end. I have read quite a few posts here concerning room placement and interconnect cables. I have had reasonable success in the bass since I placed them closed to the wall and three ft. from the corners. I made my own interconnect cable from some pics that were posted on this site. (Much appreciated by the way.) The 2B's really seem to lack "punch" in the bass department. Maybe I'm just conditioned by vintage JBL's and these are very different speakers? Any help will be appreciated. My email is counterbiz@windstream.net. Thanks!!!

I have both 2.3 and 2.3tl version, both have the same mods and they're both great, Some stuff sounds better on the tl that does not sound as good on the reg. 2.3's and vise versa. I will agree that the TL sound more refined I cannot pick a winner, that why I kept them both.

Thanks for sharing your experience I couldn't have received a better answer than that. Two pair A/B'd awesome.

Hi Pete, welcome to Club Polk. You would be better served to start yourself a new and separate thread in the "Vintage Speaker" forum here. There your thread will be seen by many more people and I'm sure your issue will be resolved.

I have to suggest you consider the TL upgrade with the 2Bs. The effort involved is virtually identical, and the cost is only a few dollars more for the extra 5.8uF caps. With the 2Bs, there's realty no reason to avoid the TL upgrade.

Not lacking in the bass department here with the 2B's. You may want to upgrade the crossovers and look into what you are powering them with.

In my experience there is usually so much room to improve the system itself that until the system is at a high state of performance synergy the performance returns for wire improvements alone make way more difference.

On a well matched system many many speakers sound great, a poorly refined system isn't going to make even the best speakers on earth sound great.

As Larry said, it's about the music
You aren't done with wire and ready for upgrades and other tweaks until you are totally done with wire.
