Bernie in for surgery

Well, my best bud, was playing with his girlfriend, 140 lbs of great dane, and blew out an ACL. Anyone who has ever blown one,it's identical in a dog. Had to quickly scout around with the help of my vet for someone to do the surgery. For those of you with big dogs,I suggest you scout out these surgery centers ahead of time as I have found only about 500 exist here in the states. I was lucky to locate one,a very highly regarded one to boot,within a 40 min. drive, and was able to take him pronto. There are only 4 proceedures that can fix an ACL in a dog, Bernie got the best most expensive one available that would give him the best shot at a normal life. For those in the NW burbs, Care Surgery Center in Arlington Heights is tops in this procedure,and the people are top notch from front to back. He's home now, but a slow road to recovery is ahead of him. The bad thing is,once a dog blows one out on one side,the other side has a 50% chance of blowing within the next year or 2. Hope my buddy recovers well,and a few good vibes sent his way from you guys would be appreciated. For those that don't know him, He's a white GSD, who is closing in at 9 years old,but thinks he's still a puppy. Also, learn from my stupidity,and buy that dog insurance because surgery sure in hell ain't cheap.

    Sorry to hear about the ACL problem. Animal surgery is darn expensive. Hope he gets better quicky.

    That's great that he still has such a young spirit! Hopefully his body will be ready to back that mentality again here soon!

    He's a lucky pooch to have you. Not every owner would (or could afford to) pay for such surgery. Hope he pulls though OK.
