Hello everyone. I am new to the site from Ontario, Canada and this is my first post. I just got a pair of RTA 12c last week and they sound great. They are in excellent condition, obviously well taken care of. I know very little about these other than they sound fantastic. I am using a Yamaha RX-V800, 100wpc to drive the and I have Polk Audio PSW250 sub. It sure is nice to listen to good speakers again. I am into 2channel audio more so because surround sound does not really impress me that much. Anyways just wanted to say hello, eh..

Welcome to the jungle. Thats a fine pair of speakers you have acquired. I have a pair myself in the closet awaiting some drivers and a crossover rebuild. Do a search and you'll find plenty of info on your RTA's.

I have heard RTA12s a number of times, and I can't imagine you would need a subwoofer with those...

Get rid of the Yamaha and give them some nice clean power. There's a lot of good used equipment out there that would make those 12's shine.

Don't listen to this ****. We usually welcome people here, not tell them to throw out their gear. Your Yamaha is a fine amp for those speakers, there are always better of course, but some people (above)have trouble being content with what they have so they project onto others.

Congrats on the RTA12C's! They were the best of the lot and are terrific speakers. My dad had a pair for years and I recently sold mine. Great imaging & while the bass is pretty good, yeah, I wouldn't have minded having a sub with them.

Have fun & welcome to CP!

****? Wow! Kind of harsh there. So ya state an opinion and you're a **** if nduitch disagrees. Real sweet. I guess some people have no class. My comment is from experience. Yamaha does make good equipment. I had a pair of 12C's connected to a Denon 100WPC receiver but when connected to my Mac 2205, they sounded completely different. Those 12C are a really fine speaker. I had a set, sold them and regretted it. Had to find another pair. Welcome to the club.

First, Welcome to the club. Those are some nice speakers you got there.
Now onto the point flason was making. I am sure they sound great with the Yammy but they can truly sing with some higher end (Mac, Rotel etc...) gear.

Wow, Nice face you put on the club there nduitch.

I used to have a Yamaha receiver in my stack of stuff, but found that it lacked the power needed to get the best out of my speakers. I am not familiar with teh model you have, but if it has pre-out capability, I would suggest an external amp to drive them. If you like the way they sound now, you will LOVE the way they sound with better power.

Congrats on the find and welcome to CP.:D

Actually I have been thinking of changing the Yamaha. It is surround and I want to go back to 2-channel. What are some good ( not too expensive ) receivers. I am also wondering if I should go for vintage or new and what power I should have. I still play records but mostly CDs. Man, I like these speakers.
Any advice would be very much appreciated.

My RTA12C's are in the livingroom which means they split time as 2.1 'Stereo' music speakers and 7.1 'Home-Theater' speakers. I love them with the Pioneer Elite AVR that is pushing them now but before I got the Pioneer Elite I had a Harmon Kardon AVR that was less feature packed as the PE but man did it sound musical in stereo mode! Enjoy and stick around, and use the search function to see what others have learned and shared.

If I go to the search tab and put in RTA, nothing comes up. I must be doing something wrong.

    Welcome to CP.

Go to advanced search and try rta12, make sure title search is selected.

I found a pair of really nice 12s for a friend with peerless tweeters.

I found they like to be off the floor.

I was using a Carver TFM-45 AMP and I was impressed how nice they sounded.

Since I was just testing them I did not have them positioned correctly since would require me moving my 1Cs.

From what I remember the bass sounded pretty good.

If you AVR has preouts I would recommend getting a 2 channel amp if more power is what you are looking for and it would most likely be cheaper than buying a new/used AVR/receiver.
