Apple's "little" "mistake"

"Upon investigation, we were stunned to find that the formula we use to calculate how many bars of signal strength to display is totally wrong. Our formula, in many instances, mistakenly displays 2 more bars than it should for a given signal strength. For example, we sometimes display 4 bars when we should be displaying as few as 2 bars."
"Since this mistake has been present since the original iPhone, this software update will also be available for the iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G. "

So how to "fix" it now that it is lower? Simple, make it look like you're still getting better reception that you are:
"We are also making bars 1, 2 and 3 a bit taller so they will be easier to see. "

Apple really screwed the pooch with the new phone, and then made matters even worse by shifting the blame to their customers for not holding it right.
They've built their entire company on making stuff to be idiot proof, so that basically anyone can us it, that's what they DO. That scene from ofice space always comes to mind when something like this happens "What would you say........ya DO here?".
It's not really tied to this incident so much, but my next phone will likely NOT be an iPhone, I'll likely be going the Droid route if there are better options on ATT when I get ready for a new phone.
My biggest problem with Apple has been their approach to handling apps, "Look peoples, we don't think you're smart enough to decide what apps you need, so we're going to decide which ones you can install. We do this because we are the all knowing Apple and our devices are idiot proof and never crash because we don't let bad apps in, so really we are protecting you, from yourself since you're an idiot and don't know which apps to install.".
Ya know that mentallity works as long as you're perfect, but when you do screw something up, egotistical attitudes like that generally come back to bite you in the ****. -

From the article:We will issue a free software update within a few weeks that incorporates the corrected formula. Since this mistake has been present since the original iPhone, this software update will also be available for the iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G. -

Me thinks you only read title and not full article!
As a side note, my 3GS with Vodaphone Australia would drop out constantly, in area's I would always have 100% reception with Nokia N95.
My boss mentioned he thought here was an app to improve reception, which I didn't believe but started researching the issue.
I found some hints about adding a strip or 2 of cellotape to the back of your SIM to make it fatter, thus providing better contacts between phone/SIM.
I was skeptical but read this many different places so thought what the heck I'll give it a go (on a morning where I had NO reception at work, rebooting usually helps but not this time.....) SO out with the sticky tape (I used 2 strips) and F@#$K me if it doesn't work a treat!!! I have had ZERO drop outs since then (was getting them daily) and 4-5 bars constantly....although reading this article perhaps it says 5 bars but really only 2! LOL
Either way, it's ALOT better with tape. . . . . -

You should try Duct tape--I'll bet you get a full 10 bars then...:cool:____________________
