Surround Repair

I have a pair of JBL L3's that I picked up on Craigslist for $100 to mess around with. I enjoyed them for 2 days when I noticed a weird sound coming from one of the 8" woofers. The surround started coming off at the bottom left.

I was curious if I could get an opinion as far as possibly super gluing it back on (i.e. what to use; should I order something speaker-specific or am I able to go to the hardware store) ?

Is there a pretty high chance of it happening again ?

All opinions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Brandon

    Bump.

I was told http://www.soundspeakerrepair.com/speaker-parts-cp/RS-3087/Supplies/Supplies/ would be my best bet elsewhere.

It's $21 ($11 shipping) though. Is that my 100% best bet or is there an alternative that will give that quality (or better) that I can buy locally at a hardware store?

    Thanks.

Welcome to CP Log1. My eyes aren't what they used to be but that looks like a foam surround, and the adhesive in the link says it's for rubber surrounds. Not sure if that means it will not work others maybe can tell you for sure. If they are foam, you may be better off to replace the whole surround, which many say, and some of the instructions I have seen, does not look too difficult as long as you take your time.

I'd just get a repair kit and re-do both surrounds. They aren't expensive, and it's relatively easy to do. I've done a few sets of speakers now, it's they've all turned out quite well.

    Thanks for the replies!

The surrounds are in fact rubber, not foam.

Are there any other suggestions for glue or shall I go with the above?

I'd like to attempt gluing before re-foaming.

My apologize for the late reply.

    Thanks,
    Brandon
