S10 Problems

Hello, new here.

I have a pair of S10's that were originally meant for our surround system, but ended up being used in our main room. Anyways, we ended up buying new speakers for that room and I moved the S10's into the surround since they match the rest of the speakers there. When I hooked it all back up, on one of them the woofer and mid drivers weren't working, just the tweeter.

Now I can't verify that they were working correctly recently, but I was using them that day and didn't notice any imbalance. I wonder if it is the actual drivers themselves or if the crossover has gone funky. Any suggestions on how I could test out what is actually wrong?

Well, I just swapped the mid drivers, and it appears that is the problem. Much to my surprise the woofer on these speakers isn't active, it just leaches pressure created by the mid driver. I don't know how that creates much bass at all, but whatever. Anyone know if I can still get MW8000's?

It's a passive radiator, very popular in a lot of vintage Polk design (and others). I don't think you can get 8000's anymore, but a quick call to customer service in the morning will answer that question.

You'll see Polk drivers show up on ebay, but not a lot of parts out there for the S series.

You can't get the MW8000 from Polk any longer and there is no current replacement. They will occasionally show up on ebay, but you may wait a few months to find one. I have seen them go from $20-$50 each. I even saw a pair go for $104.

Craigslist will occaisonally throw up a set of S10's for $75-100. I just sold my mint S10's with boxes and all original paperwork including receipt for $100.
