Is there any other slot to put the .5 ohm resistor???

OK, I am pulling apart my 3.1TL's to do the rings and I will also be adding a .5 ohm 12W Mills resistor on the crossover to "tame" the tweeter(s).

My question is, is there any other spot you can put the .5 ohm resistor besides, I believe the S1 spot if I remember correctly to act as the jumper. I know for some of the other resistors there is more than one location you can put it to have it be effective. How about this one? The reason I ask is because the 24uF Sonicap capasitor is basically on top of the jumper where the .5 ohm resistor needs to go. I *might* be able to get it out, but it would be tough, very tough actually. Any help would be appreciated.

Jesse, Jesse, need your help.;)

My response is: If you need 60 seconds to respond in one sentence, you probably should't be evaluating Polk speakers.....

Can you solder it on the backside of the crossover.
JC approves....he told me so. (F-1 nut)

Can't you put it in line with the lead from the board to the speaker wire for the highs??

I thought of doing that, but the problem is getting the jumper in the S1 slot out. Hence, the need of finding another slot to put the resistor and leave the jumper in the S1 slot. I could *possibly* get it out, but would prefer to not have to as the 24uF capacitor is basically on top of it. I can see the very edge of the jumper though, so that's why I say it is possible, just difficult. But, I don't know hot the other crossover is yet.......

If you mean on the amplifier side (as opposed to the tweeter side) yes you could. But you don't have very good control over where the resistor body rests.

You can put it external to the speaker, replacing the jumper between the two plus posts on the back, but I'd solder it if you can. However, just replacing the jumper (on the rear of the speaker) is a quick and dirty way to see if it tames things to your satisfaction. If not, then you didn't waste any time with the crossover.

If you take the round "cup" (that has the speaker connections on it) off the back of the speaker and put the resistor in line with the tweeter lead from the connection to the crossover. Would that not work??

Maybe Ben or Jesse will chime in and help out??

can you snip the jumper and solder the leads to the resistor? Or remove the cap and jumper and start over?

OK, I got the jumper out of one crossover and soldered the resistor to the bottom of the crossover. It worked pretty well. Thanks for everyones' advice. I just hope I can get to the other jumper on the other crossover. I can't remember what it looks like after putting in the cap. I'll let everyone know if I have to do something different.

I may be a little late, but you can put it in series with the 1.3 ohm resistor or you could put it in place of the jumper next to the P3 Molex terminal block.

Thanks for your guidance Jesse. I ended up getting both jumpers out and put the .5 ohm resistor underneath the crossover as pictured. I appreciate the help though.

Hey Jesse, do you know about these "newer" Mills resistors? They physically look different than others I have gotten (they are a light red color instead of brown). I knoiw that Mills was bought out by another company, but supposedly are equivalent in quality. Do you know anything about this?

I wasn't aware that they were bought out. I have some that I bought awhile back that are a rusty color and some that were green I believe.

I read at the Handmade ELectronics web site about 6 months ago that the Mills resistor company was being bought out by another company (but I can't rmember which one off the top of my head). Unless the people at Handmade were inhailing a little too much lead solder smoke, and were dead wrong they said that the last of the "original" Mills were all they would get in stock. I am not sure where they got their info from though. I do know that's what they stated on their web site for certain though.
