Are VHS movies re-sellable?

Hi all...

Looking for advice on this. I am trying to get rid of things I no longer use. I have over 40 decent to very good movies on VHS - varying conditions - from used a lot to new in seal. I put them up on craigslist for a buck a piece and no takers. What's the best way to get rid of these? I'm not looking for a killing - hell, i'd take 20 bucks for the close to 50 movies. Ebay? Seems nobody buys VHS on there? Old record shop? Just junk them? Garage sale?

Given the fact I would get less then a $5 for a DVD in a yard sale, I trashed some VHS feeling they are close to worthless.

If you ever get trapped on a desert island, you could use them to tie together the planks of your raft.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

Unless they are rare or OOP titles... no.

I have piles of VHS tapes as well. I'm holding on to them and preparing to stock up on VCR's for the foreseeable future.

My wife has been slowly selling my old VHS collection. I don't think she gets more than $1 - $2 for them, usually from someone who has some type of emotional bond to whatever movie she is selling and "needs" to have it in all formats. Personally, I would prefer to just toss them all, but if it makes her happy selling them, then good for her!

Donate them to Goodwill or the salvation army; the way things are going even DVD will be obsolete within the next couple of years with blu-ray consuming the majority of the market.

I've been discreetly tossing my fiancee's vhs collection as I can replace them with DVD's. The currently remaining few are OOP titles, but I'm sure I can figure something out. Hell, I'll buy the recorder and rip them to DVD if I have to...

Long story short, not unless they're hard to find.

Now, if you have an old tape of the hobbit, that is worth saving. The reissues of it all have soundtrack issues.

edit: I've heard the reissues all have soundtrack issues. I haven't bought a copy of every single reissue incarnation of the movie.

That's what I do, the Salvation Army store sells them in about a day. They seem to appreciate getting something besides old clothes for a change.
