Thinking about getting these. Tried searching forums using "R50" with zero success. Any thoughts from previous or current owners please chime in on the qualities you like or dis-like.

reference: would be used as front L and R in a 4.2 setup with Yamaha RXV 465 receiver

    Allow me...

IMO, there's better, but there are certainly a lot worse speakers that can be had for that money. Brand-new for less than 2 bills seems OK to me,
though I thought I saw them cheaper than that from Frys once upon a time.

I still have mine after 7 years, relegated to the TV in the den now, but as stated, they don't sound bad at all.
So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?

Thanks for the quick response. I was just on the R50 site and on the phone with a technical rep at the same time. I was asking the Polk specialist what freq. the enclosures were tuned to but they couldn't find the answer. They too praised the performance and after I mentioned the cost they too thought that was great. I will check out Fry's site. I went to Fry's last week while in Vegas for my 40th bday. I should have looked for them.

Fry's was selling them for 59 each online but with shipping came to like 90 each. I have a pair I bought used from Craigslist for $100 in mint condition. I think they are pretty good. Side by side on the same receiver I like the sound of the Monitor 50s better and those are only 99 each on newegg...

I always liked mine but I moved on to better speakers. There is noticeably less detail in the highs than other speakers from Polk (Rti and LSi series). But they are nice for their price. I got mine 3 years ago from Fry's for about $150 for the pair shipped.

Like most speakers, feed them power and they will sound better.
