I need a recommendation on m50/m60 for ht setup
I am upgrading my (sub-less) audio setup after about 15 years of use (thanks marantz and pinnacle for the run).
I dont have a huge budget... about $900 and have decided on Polk Audio for my speakers.
Here is my intended purchase... and I am getting ready to buy asap.
Receiver: ONKYO TX-SR608 (refurbished - $350)
Sub: Premier Acoustic PA-120W ($230)
Center: Polk Audio CS2 ($100)
Fronts: Polk Audio Monitor 50 / Polk Audio Monitor 60 / Polk Audio Monitor 70
Rears: Polk Audio Monitor 50 / Polk Audio Monitor 60 / Polk Audio Monitor 70
My questions are...
Should I get the same speakers for fronts/rears?
Should I get the m60 or m50? I hear the m70's maybe wouldnt be needed with a good sub and that they may even be muddled a bit on lower frequencies.
I watch blu-ray movies and dish network most of the time... play ps3 games sometimes ... and listen to music infrequently.
I am not an expert on this stuff (quite the opposite), but I want the best balanced sound for me and my family.
Please help!!! Thanks!

Welcome to Club Polk! I'd go with 60s up front, because I've heard there are some great deals to be had. If you were into music, I'd have said 70s. Go with the 50s for the rear. That would be a wonderful setup. Good luck.

Is it standard to go with larger speakers in front and smaller in the back? Could you go with the same size in front and back without looking a fool or (more drastically) compromising the movie listening experience?
Thank you for the input. Would you say there is a significant difference in the m60 and m50 speakers?
I would be interested in others thoughts as well. -
Sure, lots of people go with the same speakers in front and back. I've seen people on here do it with towers or bookshelves. You could also get away with 30s or 40s for surround and towers up front. I've not ever wished I had more capability in my surrounds for HT duty, but that's just me. Going same all the way around would not compromise your experience in any way. If you can accommodate towers all the way around, it might be ideal. Sometimes it's difficult to place/mount smaller surrounds, because you're constrained by the available mounting spaces. Assuming you're doing 5.1?
I haven't done much comparison with that series, but the 60s should play noticeably lower, with the extra mid/woofer.
