Today I noticed that the left channel output jack has broken or come loose on my Arthur DAC when I hooked up my new Acoustic Zen silver reference cables.

So has anyone ever replaced a any RCA jacks and is it an easy fix or a PITA.?

Easy fix, depending on your level of commitment. It might be as easy as tightening the nut on the rear end the actual jack. Unless it's a sonic issue, I'd bet its a physical issue.

Are they PC mount or chassis mount?Chassis mount will be the easier task.

Not necessarily, you can usually determine that from the rear panel.

    Depends on the component itself.

Sometimes you'll see 2 simple screws holding the jacks to the rear of the chassis yet when you open it up sure enough it's soldered to a board.

Hopefully it all works out for ya, but even if it's soldered down it'll be a piece of cake to replace.

The fact that an individual wants to "pop the top" usually determines the skill level. I can't account for every single situation or issue, and comment accordingly, perhaps you are able to do so....so I tend to make a general observation.

I'll defer to you next time FTGV for everything electronic.

Well there pc mount.Strange, the Dragon pro2 has all chassis mount but not the arthur. It uses those damn cheapo jacks and now I have to crack it open and order some jacks.
Can pc mount jacks be replaced by chassis mount.I like the sturdy chassis ones.
Your right D, it is physical as it still works but I dont like knowing there is a bad connection so I will have to fix it.Ill crak it open later this week when I replace the current stand with the new Rack I bought.
I have the tools I need to fix it and now Ill get the experence hands on.I spent enough money this month and Mel at camelot is expensive.

What jacks do you recomend FTGV?

Most that have screws are PC mount.Chassis mount will usually have a teflon insulator and an external locking nut or shoulder with an internal locking nut.

They're chassis, should be an easy fix.

I like Vampire's gold plated copper jacks on a budget, copper WBT otherwise.

Not at all....just my observation, like yours. I also prefer Vampire Wire....over Cardas or WBT.

I think Parts connexion has the Vamp's on sale( -15%) and they may even fit the same opening. But as Doro pointed out you may only need to tighten the locking nut.

Vampire Wire is a drop in replacement for vintage SDA...Monitor binders. It doesn't always have to be high end and ultra cool.

Well thank you all an easy fix after all.loose nut but a pita to get to and thighten.
See that CS chip fred? Can it be replaced with a 24/192 upsampling reciever chip so the DAC upsamples all inputs to 192 or does it take a whole new board?

Yes I remember our previous exchange about this unit.

It would'nt be a drop in replacement for the 8412 ,as the DR/SCR chip would be surface mount type so would require at the very least an adaptor PC board. However the DAC chips are only 20bit/48k capable so you would gain little.

I fully agree with Mark, you first have to determine how far the OP abilities are. I also think ''guesstimate'' is not a good thing. No matter how extensive your electronic knowledge is, openeing the cover is the right thing to do!

fbm211, while the cover is open you should check and tighten ALL of your RCAs along with ALL of the screws holding the PCB in place. Once you have done this, use a drop of lock tite (not the permanent which I believe is red but rather the blue which I believe is easier to remove if need be). You only need a small drop at one side of each nut or screws and this should prevent such to happen again.

Seems like your cable are somewhat heavy and potentially tight connection and if you tamper a lot with the cables (removing and installing often) might be the reason why this happened.

    Cheers!

Thanks for the suggestions. While Im shopping for some good deals on deoxit and deoxit gold ill get some of the lock tite you mentioned.(The silver reference cables I bought have some serious oxidation on the RCAs.)
