A different version of this rumor comes out every two weeks. Until you see Verizon announce it, don't believe a thing.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

Bloomberg isn't some random blog. They wouldn't have ran this article if they didn't know it was true. Certainly, things can change, but barring journalistic malfeasance by an organization that should know better, this announcement is one you can bank on.
The device will be available to customers in January, according to the people, who declined to be named because the information isn’t public. Natalie Kerris, an Apple spokeswoman, and Jeffrey Nelson, a Verizon Wireless spokesman, declined to comment.

Yep. The iPhone becomes more and more less cool since it has actual competition now ala Google. Viva la Droid X. The domination couldn't last forever Apple, sorry. I still love my iTouch however, it's just your phone/service that currently sucks donkey.

The Wall Street Journal isn't just "some random blog" either, and they said one would be out by the fall.

I'm not disparaging Bloomberg, just saying I've heard these rumors enough, from credible sources and not, to be skeptical.

Did you actually read the article you just posted? I read it twice and while its possible I still missed it, I didn't see it stated anywhere that Apple was going to release an iPhone through Verizon this fall. The only speculation was that AT & T may lose exclusivity.

Regardless, January is a month removed from Fall.

That goes without saying, and no manufacturer is going to produce a phone for a company that they can't sell to.

Do you work for Verizon? Bloomberg? I don't understand what's wrong with a little skepticism about a rumor.

If it were set in stone, Verizon would announce it.

There's speculation that it's actually a Verizon-fueled rumor to delay folks from re-upping their contracts with AT&T...

Of course I don't work for either of them, but that isn't the point. It isn't like your average Apple or Verizon employee knows anything anyways.

This stuff is leaked to the media by the higher ups in both companies to create buzz. That's how rumors get started.

My point was that I don't see an organization such as Bloomberg making such claims unless they're certain its true. Like I said, it isn't some blog that doesn't have any journalistic credibility to uphold.

Be skeptical all you want. I was just taking issue with your initial comment. If it makes you feel better, yes, Bloomberg could certainly be wrong. I bet we'll see an iPhone with Verizon this winter, though.

Given the popularity of the iphone i would think they would be flooding us with propaganda. Until another provider or apple says whats what its all just rumor.

I loved the Iphone but could not stand AT&T, by far the worst service every in my region. Their coverage felt like trying to search for free wifi signals in a hotel.
I could consider returning to a future generation Iphone if and when Apple partners with Verizon.
For now, I'm loving my Evo despite the awful battery life. Sprint's service is pretty good as well.

    For all the naysayers...............

AT&T changed eligibility for anyone who would be due for their phone upgrade this year, and will allow them to buy an iphone 4 now instead of waiting. That's 6 months of potential customers locked in to a new 2 year contract, with a new and improved Early Termination Fee of $375. (Up from $175 I believe).
Reports show that cell companies don't make money on high-end smart phone subsidized sales until their 18th month under contract.

So.......... AT&T just did this out of the goodness of their hearts, to allow people to get an iphone now? Not a chance. They know this is coming. And they know that people hate the Deathstar.

With no announcement earlier this month, I had given up on the iPhone for Verizon and was set on getting the DroidX when it comes out. All this announcement does is make me want to hold out through the winter with my Blackberry to see how it works out.

On another note, the HTC Incredible has only been on Verizon for a couple months and is on backorder...Verizon is expected to discontinue the Incredible shortly after the DroidX is released, probably before the backorders even ship.

Is that true? Why would Verizon discontinue the Incredible, it's a great phone? My contract with AT&T is up this summer and I was considering going to Verizon and getting the Incredible.

I'm by no means an "Insider"...I just came across this several times this week while researching which phone I should replace my Blackberry with. Here's a link to one of the stories...no idea how credible this is, but there are several other similar references out there...

I see no credibility to verizon discontinuing the incredible...verizon doesnt even make the incredible to discontinue, likewise, the incredible is htc and the droidx is motorola, it would make no sense for HTC to discontinue their best performing phone on the verizon network so a competitor can swallow up the market.

It is said, however, that if you have an incredible backordered, at your option at the time of the droidx's release, you can get the droidx for the same amount.

DroidX has a bigger screen and records video in 720p, both upsides over the incredible.

The comments tot eh above article indicate that it was actually an older rev of the Incredible being discontinued (a newer rev with Wireless N and Android 2.2 is coming).

And Verizon can certainly discontinue their subsidy of a phone, even if they can't discontinue the actual sale or production from HTC itself.

It would be nice to see them both on the market for comparison...although the HTC v. Motorola decision isn't as compelling to me as the Android v. Apple decision.

Just like everyone, I'd like to streamline my electronics as much as possible...I recently purchased an AppleTV, which makes me think that waiting for the iPhone on Verizon would reward me with a more integrated solution overall. However, the AppleTV is a dying product with the new (and much more expensive) Mac Mini on the market. The more I've looked at the Mac Mini, the more that I've realized a HTPC would be a better solution for me. If I end up replacing the AppleTV with a HTPC in the near future, it would seem that I would have a more streamlined solution with a Droid phone. I have no idea if either of these arguments are logical and actually true...but as I heard from a very reliable source, I should never let the facts get in the way of my argument. At the end of the day, I wish that I was either an Apple fanboy or hater to help expedite decisions. On the other hand, I am a Verizon fanboy based simply based on call reception versus the pain my colleagues with iPhones have experienced.

Yes, verizon could end selling the incredible as one of their packages, but it doesn't really make good business sense to do so.

It decreases competition, which is never good...and it decreases options available to consumers. What if someone doesn't like Motorola or especially likes HTC?

    I don't see it happening.
