New NAD Coming - Bi-amp Possible/Necessary?

Have been posting in Electronics about the journey taken in acquiring a NAD 5 Channel Amp and it looks like it's finally on its way.

I'll be installing it behind my Onkyo 707 AVR that is currently set up as a 5.2 and will continue to run the system as a 5.2. But I have a question.

I have my front speakers 'bi-wired' with the front surround 'outs' from the Onkyo powering the top ends of the A7s, (jumpers removed), while the front 'outs' power the bottoms. Never had this hooked up any other way - can't really say if it's been an advantage - Onkyo had it in their owners manual so I just did it.

Now, with the 5 channel amp coming, I'm wondering if I should leave the Onkyo surround front "outs" hooked up the the top of the A7s or disconnect, replace the jumpers and just let the amp do its thing?

Would I have a real 'bi-amp' hookup if I left the Onkyo front surround 'outs' connected? Any advantages? disadvantages?

Comments appreciated.

Thanks,

Dave

IMO try the NAD out on the set up first before worrying about doing the bi amping. The NAD should provide you with more than enough power for your set up and will be fine for most applications. If you wanted to do a little upgrade you can always replace the stock brass jumpers with a better quality cable.

    cstmar01 -

Glad you mentioned upgrading the jumpers. Not sure what to look for ... seems I've read some guys just use speaker wire but there has to be something out there that's best.

I've tried a 'jumper' search here and didn't see expected results. Guess I'll try to google jumper. Hope I don't land in a **** pool ...

Normally for replacing the brass jumpers you can take the same kind of speaker wire you use for the normal run from the amp to the speakers and can make some DIY jumpers out of that. You could use the barewire for the jumper and then like banana ends for the speaker wire. Other wise places like Signal Cable can make you some good quality jumpers with terminated ends for I think around 45 bucks or so. Its not listed on their website but if you email them you can get a quote.
Solidsqual I know had the signal ones on the RTiA9's he sold here a few months ago if you would need a photo.
