RT1000i binding posts

My RT1000i amp started humming so I was removing it to send back to Polk for diagnosis. What is the secret to getting the 2 speaker wires inside the cabinet off of the binding posts? I started turning the the nut on the end...difficult because of the glob of red loctite, glue, etc., and eventually the whole post sheared off. I realize now I could have just removed the 2 screws on the outside of the amp panel and left the binding post assembly intact, but I had that revelation too late.

So when I get the amp back, hopefully with new binding posts since I made a note of that, how will I re-attach the wires?
