Which Polks are these?
Sorry to ask you to "bail' me out on my first submission to this forum...but..
I picked up a pair of Polks at the S.A. for ten dollars. Listened to them on everything from a sherwood reciever to an Onkyo M504 to a pair of mono blocks that almost cost me my marriage....Darn..I should have bought the AQ
cables...then she would have left for sure....kidding of course. Anyhow I looked these guys up in "orion" and could not seem to find a perfect match.....they should have pictures in that book for folks like me.
They are a two way ported speaker with one 6 1/2" woofer that is marked
SDA CRS Aug. 85. The tweeter is a dome type that says "SL 2000" on the bottom. The port is 1" below the woofer and measures aprox. 7/8" i.d.
The dimensions of the speaker are : 8 1/2" deep, 17" high and 9" wide.
They have 5 way binding posts and are externally fused....vinyl wrap cabinet.
And they sound...well....quite nice. Quite nicer than a lot of speakers I have paid embarrasing amounts of money for. So I am feeling stupid,Humbled, and really curious what model these are.....and do I have a tin ear or do these darn things sound a little too nice for something over 30 years old...but then I'm 57 and there are people out there that say i sound nice too, Any how...does anyone have the time to tell me what I have? ......I'm talking about the speakers...My wife reminds every day what i have...and what she wants!!!! Thanks folks...hope i didn't bore you with my personal "issues".
P.S..what she wants is a new car...no kidding....she "t boned "
someone on Saturday...thank God everyone was ok!! Rick.

Monitor 5jr, most likely. The 5jr's had the port instead of a PR.Ludicrous gibs! -
WELCOME TO CLUB POLK!!
10 dollars for a pair of Monitor 5s? Congratulations.
I have a pair of those coming to me with the peerless tweeter on my return to the U.S. courtesy of a fellow Polkie. I paid a bit 'more' than that. But they are worth every PENNY!
And, NO, it's not your imagination or aging ears....those old Polks can sound as good or 'better' than many new speakers!
Enjoy!

Check the date. The 5JR, 5JR+ and 5JR+ Series 2 all had PR's in my book, as did the 5 Series 2, and the 5A/B. The Monitor 5 that 'I' know is 2 way, ported. Of course, we all know that there were a lot of crossover models throughout Polk history (along with some questionable labels on the back end), I'm talking the model between 1979 and 1985 - but as an example the 5JR (not +) dates 84-85, so anywho....
It's a cool peice of Polk heritge, and part of the blueprint of the sound we love so much.
Cheers,
