I thought so, I am glad - and a little lucky, to have them. ;)
And these aren't even broken in, just about 10-15 hours.

And I love them, yes! Sounds excellent. Mighty midbass, and even sub-bass!
I tried cut them at 31.5hz and I've got to say WOW, but I use 40hz (24db/okt)
now and it blends well in with subwoofer at 40hz (36db/okt). And they have only
gotten around 20 hours of use, can they really get any better now!? :D

The 6500's are very aggressive in the 80-100hz range. 50 hz though will be much louder from your sub, regardless of which 6.5-6.75" driver you're using. So how you set the 50-100 range at your eq really defines how well the mid bass shines and blends with the sub. Will vary a bit for the sub you run, enclosure, power etc.

Again, assuming that you have the ta, slopes, xover points etc set correctly for that eq setting.

The 5250 have cleaner mid range, thats very critical when blending the mids and highs. The sr-6500 are weaker in the 1-4khz range, than the 5.25". Maybe not in the physical db sense, but yes in terms of natural presentation. Mind you the difference is minute, but just noticeable :).

Frankly, having listened to and tweaked both, I'm at a loss as to which one I prefer.

I love the SR6500's! Much better midbass yes, but I had to pinch down 80hz and 125hz some - a lot of energy there.
Otherwise, I made them blend in very well with my sub too. With the woofers in well-damped doors,
and the woofers mounted in a stiff and thick plate, they does give me a lot of bass, pretty deep too...
About the midrange, I think they sound good, not very different - but it won't be a problem
since I'm gonna cross them at maximum 1.25khz when I get my Tang Band 2" speakers on the dash.

So far, I think I like the SR6500 a little better - mostly because
I love midbass and don't hear much difference in the midrange. ;)

Should've posted on this thread as well, just installed them 2-3 days ago :D:D:D

I'm looking at trying to get this Polk PA330 amp that's on craigslist (will use it to bi-amp the SR's with the other 2-channel amp I have) but the guy has yet to reply to my email.

So far I'm loving them! Never heard so much detail in a car stereo, just glad it's MY stereo that sounds so good :)

Got mine used (since what, they're nearly impossible to find unused) however I had to purchase a pair of Vifa's from Madisound because they didn't come with the stock tweeters. The crossovers weren't used since they were in an active X-O setup so I guess those are having to break in.

Haha no, I don't think the X-overs need break in time. :p But what do you think about the midbass? Where do you cross them?

Hmm, I'd beg to differ. I experienced that when I upgraded the caps in my old RT1000P towers and it took some time for the X-O's to really make the speakers sound good.

Right now I've got them crossed at 70hz -6db. I'm not going to leave it at that though since I want to bi-amp the SR's, replace my sub+sub amp and dynamat my doors. Still a long way to go

Crossovers dont break in. The caps may take a second or two to form after the first power up but thats it.

You should. I can say with all honesty that I'd put the 5250 mid up against ANY on the market today. I ran them in competition this year, 2007 and plan on running them again next year.

For me it's midbass > midrange, by far! :D But hey, the SR5250's has excellent punch...
I crossed mine at 80hz, and used 18db/octave, with sub at 63hz (36db/oct.), worked well!

Right, the 6.5's do have better midbass response and hell they get really close to sub bass but the midrange and detail of the 5.25's is just superb and really hard to beat. Pair these with some good midbass drivers and youre set!

Yeah, but what about SR5250 + the Tang Band W6-1139SI 6.5"?
That way you could still go threeway since these excellent woofers
can produce both midbass and sub-bass. Crossed around 80-100hz
would work very well I think - but of course you'd need all upfront.

Edit: But nothing wrong with subwoofer's in the front! :D

If you're so inclined, I'd recommend posting a separate thread in the Wanted section for better results.
