Which one of these two turntables would your recommend

Which one out of the two would you recommend or purchase strictly for home use? Cost if very comparable. Belt drive vs Direct drive. The Rega has no bells and whistles and the AT has many including USB.

I have a Music Hall that I am pretty happy with. Specs out pretty much the same as the Rega.

I've not heard an Audio-Technica table since the '80s but it being USB TT is a turnoff IMHO. I would go with the Rega for a number of reasons one being that it is fully upgradable to meet the standards of the higher model Regas.

There are two things I would do right off the bat if you were to buy the Rega, 1.) upgrade the platter to their acrylic platter 2.) get yourself an Clearaudio Twister Clamp

These two tweaks will improve your SQ by leaps and bounds and with the acrylic platter, you don't need to use a platter mat.

Also I've heard the Rega and I've heard a model similar to the Audio-Technica. Rega IMO wins between what I've heard from the two. Also the upgrades you can do with the Rega are wonderful. The platter is a great up grade. I talked to a shop that sold Rega and as he stated it is the first upgrade he recommends to anyone with the table. He states is one the "makes truly a clear and audible difference". He even demoed this for me, and yes, it makes a difference.

I have the AT-120. It is an ok turntable. Basically, it's a knockoff of the Technics SL-1200 TT. Definitely worthwhile if you are looking to get into vinyl, but don't want to spend a lot (like I was). If you get it, I would recommend to change the cartridge out. At $300, it is way overpriced. That is the MSRP. I think they are available on Amazon for around $200. I don't have any information on the REGA.

Well I gave the Audio-Technica a whirl and I liked it. Heard the Rega and liked it as well. I ended up with the Audio-Technica over the Rega as I was going to be given a demo model and I did not know that when I went the first time. The Demo Rega was $100.00 more then the new AT.
It was so hard to tell which one sounded better as they were on two complete different systems/stores.

I have now set up the AT on my system and it sounds good. Needle needs to gets some hours on it to tame the brightness some. I read some reviews that state that a AT120E/T cartridge sounds so much better and does not weigh as much as the 3.5 tracking grams as I am using now. Maybe down the road for that one.
