Got a call from the repair shop today that the fuel canister and some fuel lines and valves on my truck need to be replaced. he quoted me a price of $650 for the parts and labor. does this sounds right to you in the know?

my truck is overflowing the front fuel take from the rear one and it's not shutting off because the valves are bad. fuel is leaking and building up pressure in the front tank.

Well, the tank is gonna be about a hundred bucks. It's gotta get dropped and drained and old, usable parts swapped to the new tank. That's an hour or two of labor. That's probably around $250 right there. Depending on what valves and lines need to be replaced it could be anywhere from another 250-450 bucks. Lotsa little parts involved that add up. But it's probably a good 6 hours worth of work and parts that aren't necessarily cheap either. I don't think that is that bad of a deal.

just got off the phone with another repair shop.. good news, well sort of.

background: i've only owned my truck for 10 months. 1991 F150 got a good deal on it. i think.

previous owner had the two fuel tanks tied together.. now when I fill rear tank it also fills the front tank.. bad thing. so the fuel is being sucked into the front tank and it's building up pressure and overflowing. and it's leaking. badly too.

so my mechanic is going to bypass the front tank and i'll only have a rear tank to use.. sounds reasonable to me.. at a later date I can have the fuel system rewired/rehosed correctly if I so choose..

anyway, thats what I just learned. today i should get out the door for about <$250 :)

Oh, see, that changes things. A rigged up job is always gonna cost a fortune to fix because you gotta replace the parts with the right parts. You truck had a dual tank option so I assumed that's what you were dealing with. Didn't know you had a rigged job.

John, I didn't know I had a rigged jobber either.. no idea why this was happening till my mechanic looked into the problem. it's effed up.. but i can deal with getting it rehooked up correctly at a later day at least.
