At my last job, we had some pretty large data centers. Our main center had multiple duplexed 400kW feeds. We had 4 banks of generators. Two each generating 650 kVA. A total of 8 backup generators The UPS system had a monitoring computer that monitored all kinds of stuff including the power feeds between the generators and the UPS systems as well as the feed from the street. It had a box that had a readout monitoring the incoming power feed for variances and sounded an alarm if it was too far out of spec. Spec was 1100-1300 MW. It was typically right in the middle, around 1.2 GW. Quite often the log books for the monitoring box read something like 1.216453...GW for a reading and then penciled in next to the readings was "Great Scott!"

    Engineers are such nerds.

    Jigga who. That's what.
I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore
