Sent them a offer, I'll let you know what happens. That's a neat little way to buy speakers. Everyone should do it that way.

    Thanks for the heads up.

Well, dangit. You could bump up a few $$ and try again. I sent offers from two different email addresses, which worked out well for me. I think I PM'd you the final price I paid.

BTW, did they counter your offer with something a little higher? Some savings is better than no savings, I would think. But if you're like me, saving more makes me feel even better about a purchase! :D I think the only new gear I've paid full MSRP was for our two Oppo's. And worth every penny, I might add...

    Leroy -

Call that same company I PM'd you about, maybe you could still work a "NYP" deal. FWIW, they accepted my other offer for a CSi A6 in black for $299 - a week after their promotion ended! I'll be calling them tomorrow to see if they would honor that price on a cherry version.

FYI, my A7s arrived in perfect condition last week, though haven't had much time to really dial them in. I did watch "Star Trek" Blu-ray last night at about -10dB on the Onkyo 805 and they sounded great!

    100_9042.JPG

Ignore the super sliders under the feet, I was just trying to get them angled in just right. In lieu of installing the factory carpet spikes, I have a set of these outriggers on order - they should make the leveling process easier and provide a bit better stability.

I hope you find your cherry RTi Ax's soon!

Perfect!...i bought my DSW and RTA1's from them and there wasn't a scratch on them. They sound awesome as well.

You can't beat their price for BASICALLY new equipment with full manufacturers warranty. Shipping was kinda slow from cali to mass :(....booo fedex!!

I thought Polk refurbs only had a two-year limited warranty:
    http://www.polkaudio.com/support/warranty-returns.php#q9.

They don't come with the 5-year warranty that new ones come with.

FWIW, earlier this year I won a refurb microPro 3000 from Polk's ebay auction, but it was defective so I had to return it. It looked to be in perfect cosmetic condition, though. I thought about trying to win a 4000, but ended up buying a sub from a different manufacturer.

Onkyo TX-SR805 @ 130w/ ch, bi-amped with Kimber 8TC. Very rarely did I drive my RTi70s above -10dB, though the Eagles concert on HD DVD @ 0dB was damn impressive...

Hopefully this weekend I can run Audyssey and use my SPL meter to better dial in the A7s. Then I'll have to recalibrate the SMS-1 to make sure the sub and A7s are also playing well together.

Of course, when the speaker outriggers arrive in the next week or two, I'll do this all over again! :o Being this anal is a sickness that is unfortunately not covered by my insurance plan... ;)

Just curious - what did you pay for your refurb A7s? PM is fine...

I was able to get my new A7's for $740 shipped. :)

You're doing all the mods/tweaks, correct? Did you get inside the cabinet to access the crossover? If so, how did you do this, just remove a driver or port?

The reason I ask is that when I was removing the brass jumpers for biamping, one of the small covers to the banana plug holes fell off, hit the cone of the rear power port bracket, slid into the port itself, and fell inside the cabinet. I'm not sure if I can just remove the lower front port and reach inside to retrieve it... :o

Yes. I take it you've seen my other threads. After I finish my new rack* I will rewire** both channels w/various gages** of OFC** then run more tests/readings w/RTA w/one channel bi-amped*** the other as Polk built it. BTW did you see that the A7s mid & subs share closure space and run in parallel (4 Ohms) below the sub XO frequency (125HZ)?!! That's right, no 125 hz HP filtering for the mid!

My early**** listening/tests confirmed what my ears**** ***** suspected: a distinct peak @ 3550-4000hz and a tweeter that could stand to be turned down. Adjusting**** ****** my EXO tweeter level down 9dB seemed to "smooth" them out. "So why didn't you leave 'em?" you're wondering! Because I had equipment & wire all over my family room and 3 of my kids can't leave ANYTHING alone! Hence the need for the new rack. I doubt I'll persue passive mid-tweeter filtering experiments ($100+) as I have the amps & EXO. Still others can use what I learn to mod their speaker's closures & filters.
    * haven't started it yet.
    ** add a divider between the mid & subs, & bypass passive filtering on 1 channel. tweeters - 18; mids - 12; subs - 8.
*** mid & tweeter only. subs disconnected
**** not fully broken in at the time; 20-30 hours
***** while listening [two channel] to familiar, super smooth sounding CDs.
Did you get inside the cabinet to access the crossover?
You will easily find the XO right behind the BP panel. Unfortunately upgraded [better sounding] caps are much larger than Polk's.
I'm not sure if I can just remove the lower front port and reach inside to retrieve it [the plastic cap]... :o
If it's rattling*, driving ya nuts*, I'd try removing the bottom sub or ports. You'll need a torx bit, #5 I think. I haven't located the correct size allen wrench/hex bit. 1/8 or 3mm is too small, 4mm or 5/32 too big. Be VERY careful as those screws are a soft metal, aluminum I think. If you use a powered set for the light torque. I would loosen and do the final tightening by hand.
    * I've dropped stuff in one of my speakers. still there!
