SDA1Cs cabinet and crossover choices??

Two SDA 1c questions
Is there any sound or engineering reason to choose the studio cabinet over the cabinet with the endcaps or the vice versa? The drivers are at different heights from the floor and the passive is closer to the mids in the studio version.
The early version has blade and blade with two circular crossover boards. The later ones have a very nice everything on one board with nice wire harnesses and pin and blade. Is there a reason to use one over the other?? Keith

I prefer the end capped 1C's p/b,I cannot hear any differences between the studios or endcapped C's,,,dunno if that answers your questionJC approves....he told me so. (F-1 nut)

The pin blade single board XO is easier to mod.Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
Thanks

I'm going to go out on a limb and say the sound is so similar between SDA-1C "studio" and "standard" that the choice would come down looks of the particular model.
Now when you are talking the blade/blade with a dual crossover version are we sure those are SDA-1C's or are they a different version? Are the capacitors the exact same? -
They are 1Cs The very early 1C came with blade blade and two round Xover boards. Considering the studio cabinets are crap it makes it easier but the board differences i find interesting. Have not checked the caps and such. The studio is the later 8/88 ones the end cap one is earllier 9/87. Point being is it worth just moving the pin bade stuff over to the endcap cabinets??

Don't mean to hijack your thread but are there differences in the cabinet construction between the standard and studio models or is it just the presence or lack of the end caps?____________________________________________________________

All of the regular 1C's are studio versions under the end caps and side cloth.Political Correctness'.........defined

That is probably true but the drivers are at different levels. The studio drivers are about 2 inches higher then the end cap version and the space between the passive and the mids is larger on the endcap version. My larger question concerns the boards.

The cabinet difference between the Studio and Standard is about an 1" in both height and width and the depth is exactly the same, so I'm not sure what you mean. This is according to the owners manual for the later version of the 1C's. The width can be attributed to the cloth side panels, but I'm sure the bezel the drivers are mounted in are identical for both.
Standard 1C's weigh 100lbs
Studio 1C's weigh 85lbs
I still believe based on the weight there are other minor postive differences between the cabinets with the Standard cabinet being slightly more sollid. The end caps don't weigh 7.5lbs each............but then I wouldn't doubt Jesse's word either. So it may be.

I have owned both Studio and end cap and could tell no differences in sound, well I did after I upgraded the end caps caps and resitors but that is a given.Speakers: SDA-1C (most all the goodies)

Amp: Wright WPA 50-50 EAT KT88s
Analog: Marantz TT-15S1 MBS Glider SL| Wright WPP100C Amperex BB 6er5 and 7316 & WPM-100 SUT

I must be on dope because those sure look different to me. Not to mention i measured them.

Geppy, per our PM I was not calling you a liar. Just quoting what I read in the Polk owners manual as far as cabinet dims for the later production 1C's.
I bet the cabinet on the left is from a 1B studio (it may say or have been sold as a 1C studio, but read futher). It doesn't make sense for Polk to create a studio and standard 1C cabinet with different baffle dimensions. Why incur the extra cost of maching two different baffles for the same speaker. They also may have used up left over cabinets from 1B studios for the early runs of 1C studio's with B/B and the split x-over's. This is just a guess but typical for Polk products of this era.

It may be they used or copied old 1B cabinets but it is a 1C. All parts are correct in fact it is newer then the endcap version 8/88 verses 9/87 I had another pair of 1C studios and it looked exactly like this one and was dated late 1989.. keith

Which one do you like better Keith?

Yep, confusing as hell!!! Not sure anyone, even at Polk knows why. The baffle could be exactly the same, but perhaps with the studio's the base it just slightly taller.
I prefer the look of the standard model and I prefer the later (simplified x-over) and the later side wound voice coil drivers.

Both have 6511 and 6510s. The only differnece in these is a the cabinet baffles and the way the ctrossover is handled. The hole for the passive is in a different location in each cabinet Several inches lower.
-
The PR location is different and looking at the picture so is the size. Probably making up for cabinet dimensions.
Seems strange that they would make to different cabinets for the same speaker. -
Here are pictures of the early 1C crossovers and the later crossover. Looks alot neater to me
