i just came home from a friend of a friends house with a set of custom made focal floorstanding speakers with a wadia cd player and a 200 watt rockford fosgate amp (rare) amp . i was expected to be blown away seeing as all i got is a set of lsi15's , onkyo dx-7555 cd player, NAD stereo pre amp and a emotive xpa-2 amp. well................. i was not, the only thing that was better was a wider and deeper sound stage (only on certain songs) but my lsi15's were better in the midrage and upper tweet. it could be the room but my setup was around 4 grand and his was around 15 to 20 grand and to be honest i do not think it was worth it. He had the bad boy beryllium tweeters and k2 mids and a focal car audio 15" sub in the same placement as the lsi15's 2 mids tweet in the middle and sub on the very bottom of the tower Any one else experience this with the lsi series and other high end speakers?

The LSi speakers are a great value no doubt. However, I would consider his rig far from HIFI, and I hope he didn't pay $15-20K for it. It sounds like a jumble of home and car audio parts built into a lets than adequate home stereo. If he were to actually spend $20K on a Wadia CDP, integrated amp, and real Focals speakers, it would best your system.

I wish I could hear me a set of Focals; I love them aesthetically. I want to hear that famous French hi-fi sound.
Edit: Rockford Fosgate amp? As in a car audio amp running a home audio system?- Jeremy
Amps: Jolida FX-10, NAD 3045, NAD C320BEE, Sansui G-9700
Speakers: Polk Monitor 7A's, KEF Reference 104aB
Sources: ProJect Debut Carbon, Sonos streaming FLAC -

For a short time, Fosgate Electronics made some very decent home electronics. I'm pretty sure at least one of the review magazines liked the build and sound of the home gear. Then Mr. Fosgate sold his company, which also produced quality car electronics, to Rockford, and let them worry about consumer gear. Rockford-Fosgate quickly dropped the home equipment, because they really wanted to concentrate on car crap.
Jim Fosgate is the man who developed prologic II. If my memory serves, I think he has a couple of dozen patents for his audio stuff.
All this is from memory, and some of it may be bit off. If I have time, I'll try to find some internet "facts," if anyone is interested. -

FYI, I believe they're making a return to home gear: http://www.musicalsurroundings.com/fosgate.html"He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche
