I will take 3 of the SL 2000's Larry

    THANKS SNOW
Well, I just pulled off the impossible by doing a double-blind comparison all by myself, purely by virtue of the fact that I completely and stupidly forgot what I did last. I guess that getting old does have its advantages after all :D

I have one that "bottoms out" (for lack of a better way to describe it) when anything with even a little bit of bass is thrown at it.

Maybe this is something that doesn't need to be replaced, just repaired or re-situated? I'm kind of new to this, how does a passive radiator have a problem like this?

Perhaps it lost its weight or there's an issue with the spiderwebs not connecting properly to the paper cones? If the spiderwebs lost connection, there's no 100% fix, from what I've heard. I definitely defer to woofer and radiator experts on that.

What's the best way to attack this? I haven't even pulled the passive radiator out yet. Should I do this first, then see if the speaker makes the same noise when driven a little bit? If it doesn't, I guess I can assume that it is actually the PR that is causing the problem.

I thought that it might have been just a bad seal somewhere on the cabinet(?), so I tried the PR push-in test (read about this on some thread here) on it. When I pushed on the PR center, the 6.5" driver pushed out and slowly returned, as I believe was the normal thing for it to do - appeared to do it with the same result as with the other M7 speaker.

I'm not familiar with what the spiderweb is. How do I tell if there's a problem there?

    Thanks for all tips.

Did the "bottoming" occur before or after the PR push test?

BTW, you should really start a new thread on this issue. Bad form to hijack someone's For Sale thread.

Thanks gdb, you're right about the hijacking thing, I'll start another thread. The bottoming out was happening before the PR push test - I did the test to make sure there was a good air seal throughout the cabinet after I had noticed the wierd sound from the PR.

Sorry about the hijacking, TOOLFORLIFEFAN, I'm still learning the proper etiquette of CP here. I'll probably be getting back to you soon for one of those 10" PRs for the Monitor 7.
