Monitor 70s tweeter distortion with certain mp3's

I don't know if it's my crappy mp3's or my lame yamaha amp but with certain songs I get distortion on my tweeter on the new monitor 70's. I'm being very careful about damaging them as I just bought my speakers and i love them. Sometimes with the right source they just sound magnificent. Maybe I'm just expecting too much clarity out of these 70's?

I'm thinking I would gain a lot by either buying an amp to drive all my speakers or buying a new cleaner sounding receiver. Maybe both. I prefer to keep using 5.1 as a setup but I might be ok with a 3.1 setup as music is my main focus and HT comes second. Would really be nice to keep my Center in the mix with my fronts.

In the meantime I'm running my receiver as a 2.1 only so I don't drive my receivers amp too hard.

Could anyone help me with some recommendations?



Side note is i'm running my front line outputs to my psw505 sub then out of the sub to the fronts. Is that what I should be doing or should I be using a direct LFE cable to the sub instead?

mp3's of today are in comparison to the Chrysler K-cars of the '80s. Cheap in the showroom, but will **** the bed in the long run. Damn good start on the gear, but get a quality CD player in the mix.;)

My computer is connected to the system as well. I wonder if my CD player on the comp will output good quality sound? What does it mean to get a quality CD player exactly?

The bit rate of the mp3's make a big difference as well. The low rates will tend to sound horrible. I would not make any decisions on the system based on how certain mp3's sound.

I second the bit rate theory that the 70s probably show the flaws in the source audio that aren't audible on computer speakers. I would also take the sub out of the loop by connecting it to the LFE and speakers direct to the receiver.

"**** the bed in the longrun" is a very technical term used exclusively in the upper echelons of the audiophile community. Keep reading here and you will eventually come to comprehend its meaning.

Thanks for the helpful advice. Will take the sub out of the loop and use a better audio source. Will let ya all know how it sounds.
