My dad and uncle once owned a house that was split into 6 units that they rented. One time after they had to boot a renter out, they asked me if I'd be interested in cleaning it for $500. Being young, ambitious and in need of some extra cash, I agreed.... Big mistake. I've never seen anything like it. Urine and vomit on the carpets, and they apparently hadn't taken the kitchen trash out for quite a while... maggots anyone? Trust me, your pictures are tame compared to what I had to deal with. It's downright unbelievable how some people choose to live, and how little respect they have for what belongs to others. By the way, my dad and uncle were nice landlords - too nice. They got out of that venture ASAP.

    Hmmm

When I was doing construction with my Dad - he had to boot some dead beats out and the people cooked all the time - but obviously never washed the dishes as there was no sign of anything ever being cleaned and the dishwasher still had the original packing materials in it --

But they had little rubbed cooking grease on EVERYTHING and I mean everything, the walls - the carpet.. everything

That was a treat to try to get rid of..

I've seen much worse in similar situations.

I've cleaned up worse in said situations.

These kinds of stories are why I quit working on foreclosed homes. That and my mold allergies. We worked on one house in a well-to-do area with solid pane windows everywhere. Not one window could be opened in the whole place. The mold was really bad in that place and you couldn't escape it. Even with a mask, it was killing me.

I've had to scrape **** off carpet, clean toilets of "mess", and remove mold and random junk. The worst scenarios were always the left-over food. We had a fridge we had to move that was left outside and my idiot boss decided to see what was inside. We had to come back the next day to move it.

The worst part was a crockpot full of beans sitting outside in the summer. No telling how long it had been there. Worst smell I have ever had. It all dumbfounds you when you see the way some people live and the lack of care they give to their properties. I guess they see it as a way to get back at the owners, even though most of the time it isn't the owner that's the issue.

Yup. Been there done that. I had smells that took several days to finally come off my hands.

I definitely learned how I was not live, that's for sure!

I am sure my ex renters are soon to be hating me:)

If I were working, I would have had my money to fix the mess they left, but I am not. SO, I had time to document the mess they left and prepare and organized document for my court ruling. YES, high resolution BEFORE pictures were worth their weight in gold.

Long story short...I got a judgement for about $7700 AFTER the deduction of the security deposit. Now to see if I can collect at least some of it.

Way to go Bro! I hope you can collect your moola. Question; what happens if they don't pay up, I'm mean do you have any other recourse to collect?

I sure hope you can, but I don't see it happening, at least if there is only one person listed on the judgement?

We had a fiasco years ago when we had our kitchen remodeled (didn't use a licensed contractor, lesson learned ), and after he took US to Small Claims Court (and lost) we turned around and sued him. We won a judgement of almost $5000, but to this day have not seen one penny of it. All he had to do to avoid paying was to not put anything in his name (nothing to attach a lien to) for 20 years. And since this occured in 1988, the lien has lapsed.

    Water

    Good luck with this anyway!
So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?

Good luck on collecting. A bit cathartic to get a court ruling in your favor, I imagine!
