Up yours the rest of the world! Screw your lousy officiating and biased judges! USA and England are both on to the second round despite your best efforts!

Dear God, what heart, and what a cardiac finish.

That particular ref is actually one of the best out there. His linesman let us down BIGTIME.
I would sincerely hope FIFA change the rules after this tournament to add 3 video-replay challenges per game at the highest levels.
Mr. Blatter, I'm looking at you.

    Rock on, Cardiac Kids!

Go Germany!!!!!!!! If those guys can put a smack down on Ghana (a little revenge for the last World Cup on our behalf), the next two rounds will be CONSIDERABLY easier.

    Ghana wins... we get Germany/Argentina/Mexico
Germany wins... we get either Serbia or Ghana/Uruguay/South Korea

Nah... you're right. But all four teams proved to be more evenly matched than expected. I guess it could be said that Group C was the Group of Death and not Group G.

Ranking is not the same as favoring.

ranking is for placement in the tournament and other factors like the quality of the other teams they will face and such are as much of a factor as the skill level of the team being ranked.

Favoring is completely arbitrary and everything from past performances completely unrelated to current day performances to the odds adjuster's bias factor in.

The NFL has a saying "Any given Sunday." Means any given Sunday, the worst team in the NFL can hand the best team in the NFL it's tukis on a silver platter. Favoring and odds do not predict the outcome of a game. Ranking can but when teams are ranked as close as they were in the Group C and Group D, it's honestly anybody's game.

I'm so glad both US and UK made it!
It would have been such a shame had UK dropped out so early, and the US team winning the group (even if that's all that they win this time around) is a great thing for advancing the sport here.

Speaking of "Ggoooooooooooooaaaallllllllllll!"... has everyone seen this yet?

Yes, they were favored to get this far. England would have been roundly reviled back home if they had failed to get out of group.
It would have been considered a national disaster. When they missed qualifying for U.S. 1994, that was considered a giant disgrace and the coach resigned. I can't recall the last time England didn't make it out of group.
    They were the seeded team.
The U.S. were very satisfied with the group draw back in January, and were expected to advance.

In fact, the teams in front of them do not look all that intimidating. They can go much further. If they get past Ghana, there'll be the Uruguay-S.Korea winner to contend with. I would expect that to be Uruguay who have shown no weaknesses so far. They have 2 world-class strikers and a tenacious defense.
U.S. in the Semifinals for the 1st time since the 1930 tournament in Uruguay? It could happen.

No, any group with Brazil, Portugal and Ivory Coast is a group of Death. An even group is just an even group, and the U.S. were actually dominant in all areas but the final score. Amazing.

    Whatever dude.

Odds makers had the U.S. a 3:1 under dog to not make past today's game. England was a 2:1 underdog after two games that went to a draw against teams that everybody said they would beat.

    Uhuh, whatever is right.
Oddsmakers didn't know what Bob Bradley knew- that he could afford to put in J. Bornstein on defense on the right because Algeria had nothing on the left to kill us on the counter when he goes walkabout up the park. Believe me, Bornstein in the lineup makes the hearts of some pretty knowledgeable fans sink.
The other smart move on defense was to leave Onyewu on the bench. This guy was the rock of the 'D' last year in Confederations Cup, good enough to get his contract bought by A.C. Milan, but so rusty after coming back from a brutal knee injury in November, he could be directly faulted for England's goal vs. U.S. and at least one of Slovenia's.
Leave him on the bench and Algeria get early one breakdown they can't capitalize on. Which is a shame about Onyewu, he's got star potential. But so does Charlie Davies and so does Freddie Adu and they're watching at home.

Pick both U.S. and England at 6-1, that's as good as it gets. I'd have taken those 3-1 odds, then cried the whole 2nd half.

England got Milner back fit, and started Jermaine Defoe, who's had a career year at Tottenham. Milner puts pinpoint crosses on the money all day long, one was enough to beat Slovenia.

Rooney must have haemorrhoids or something.

    Man what.
The Japan-Denmark game was the match that had any significance in that group, and it was great. the Japanese have figured that jabulani ball out and put in two free kicks, then finished off the Danes with a lovely piece of footwork in the last minutes. They looked very skillful, the Danes looked like thugs, and the ref was whistle-happy.

And in the other group, Slovakia took down Italy, which was kind of not that big a shock.
Azzurri finally woke up the last 20 minutes of their tournament, and it turned into a nail-biter. They went down fighting, the bastages.
