Sort-of-Peak SPL

I tracked down my RS SPL meter tonight because I was curious what SPL levels I was at overall... what number I think is "loud".

I put in T2, the beginning battle scenes. Average levels were in the mid 90s, with peaks at 102-103 dB when the large ships crash.

That was LOUD. I mean, near (and sometimes) painfully loud. The headache I thought I got rid of this evening is back.

I may have had a little room left with this receiver, given that the sub has its own amp. This was loud, but very clean and detailed.. I like this subwoofer. And relieved of duties below 80Hz, the 6502/10"PR combo can now keep up with the SL2000. That, plus I finished a prototype center channel speaker, so instead of the small Advent, I'm running two 6502s and a 'new' SL2000, built into what was the VCR shelf on our TV stand.

Honestly, I sat on the couch tonight listening to Star Trek Nemeis and thought "this thing rocks!" I'm also rather pleased with myself that I made two of the speakers.

I think I'm ready for a better DVD player. I need to talk to my wife about Father's Day....
