And then, just today I happen to catch Traffic's "The Low Spark of High Heeled Boys" on the radio. Hadn't paid much attention to it before, but a pretty decent jam!

Awesome song especially on SDAs.
How about Chicago's "I'm a man" although the studio version is just under six minutes. -
Low Spark; good catch.
Bruce Cockburn's got a few fine longer pieces. Both Deep Lake and Use it While You Can from the album Breakfast in New Orleans, Dinner in Timbuktu are excellent, though very different from each other. Great sounding album, too. -
I'll take:
The Doors - When the Music's Over
The Doors - The Soft Parade
Traffic - Dear Mr Fantasy (not quite 8 min's, although I understand there is a live version over 10 min's)

You gotta hear those songs on the Classic Records 200 gm Double LP "Neil Young's Greatest Hits!" It will give you goosebumps and raise a tear or two here and there. -

I have "greatest hits" on HDCD & it sounds pretty darn good, definite goosebumps. -
Opeth- Black Water Park - 12:08
Opeth- Hessian Peel - 11:25 -
CCR ....... "Ramble Tamble".
Song starts out kind of bippety-boppetyy (and that isn't necessarily a good thing), but ..... at about 2 minutes, things slow down and ..... well, Welcome to the Cosmo's Factory. Just short of 8 minutes; on a good rig this must sound awesome.Sal Palooza -

Forget the 3 to 4 minute finely tuned and crafted songs meant to hit the airwaves for maximum airplay and pop payoff.
What about songs that are 8 minutes or longer that are purely for musical exploration and enjoyment?

Not counting "live" or extended disco "remixes" - what are some of the long songs you enjoy?lectronicjunkie wrote: »It depends on the day. I can go from "Wonderful Tonight" by Eric Clapton to "One Step Closer" by Linkin Park or "Crazy ****" by Buckcherry.
What?
"Wonderful Tonight" - 3:44
"One Step Closer" - 2:36

How funny, I was thinking about this song over the weekend! The middle section of it is quite cool (a bit like the second section of I Want You (She's So Heavy) by the Beatles, come to think of it); very cinematic-feeling, I'd opine.
Cosmo's Factory has a couple of long tunes on it.
EDIT: oy, here's another one. How about the epic version of My Generation on Live at Leeds... -
Dark Star, Eyes of the World, Playin' in the band off of Dick's Picks or the Road Trips series preferably early to mid 70's. Great exploratory jams!!! from the Deads exalted careerMonitor 7C's With Tubes

Speaking of CCR "I Heard it Through the Grapevine" 11:03
Funny thing I thought of "Susie Q" as it seems very long but is only 4:35.
I have a copy of The Cosmo's Factory on LP that sounds incredible.mhardy6647 wrote: »EDIT: oy, here's another one. How about the epic version of My Generation on Live at Leeds...
Awesome rendition Mark! That whole LP is one of, if not the best, live recording of all times. -
Not as long of a song but still fun to listen to...
