Monitor 70s with Yamaha HTR-6140
I just recently purchased some Monitor 70's and I hope to receive them in the mail soon. My Yamaha claims to output:
5-channel 525W powerful surround sound (105W x 5)
Direct mode for high quality sound reproduction
Burr-Brown 192kHz/24-bit DACs used in all channels
Is this receiver good enough for the speakers I just purchased? Also I don't know anything about using amps to power my speakers. Should I consider buying any other components to power these speakers?
Currently I'm using a CS1 Center and PSW 505 Sub. I might eventually replace the surround speakers with Monitor 40s if they go on sale but currently they are just the Yamaha speakers that came with my receiver (Costco). I know that I have a long way to go but I have been very happy with my Polk products so far and can't wait to put my Monitor 70's in the right configuration.

Welcome to Club Polk, that AVR will be more than enough to power your 70's, they are a very easy speaker to drive. Don't be fooled by the 105W rating, I doubt it is even half that since most AVR power ratings are only for 1 or 2 channels driven, and will drop off considerably with every speaker added. Either way, you will be fine. I would leave the surrounds alone for now and put the money towards a better center, like a CS2. That CS1 won't give you the range that the CS2 will. As for adding an external amp, that AVR lacks the pre outs required to run one, so that won't be an option for you. Good luck and let us know how it sounds all hooked up. Those 70's will not dissapoint, I love mine.

It's not that I'm insensitive, I just don't care.. -
Thats a bummer to hear that haha. I just bought my CS1 a few months ago. Maybe I can sell it on the forums here since it is barely used. After I upgrade my center channel to the CS2 what would the next step be? Should I stick to what I have got for a while?HT and Music Rig

Stick with what you got for a while but if you get the "what if" bug you will want to move to more power in the amp section. Depending on your music tastes and budget, take a look at the other posts in here regarding the different opinions on receivers. Above all, make sure you get one with pre-outs so you can add an amp to it if needed.
Be sure to experiment with different speaker settings via your receiver. For months I went with the 80hz crossover theory and recently discovered that music sounded much better when they were on the Large setting and shared the LFE with the sub. Everyone has different opinions on this so have some fun with it before you trade up.

One last question
CS2 vs CS10
They are both roughly the same price on newegg.
1. What would match my setup better?
2. Which is the better speaker?HT and Music Rig

So CS1 and CS10 are similar and CS2 and CS20 are similar. Seeing the price difference I should go with the CS2. Newegg is sold out of the Cherry and I was hoping to match my set. Maybe I should just go with the black CS2 before those sell out also.HT and Music Rig
