I can't for the life of me win anything these days on eBay. How come? I have all the auctionese down: the waiting for the last possible moment, the dual window bidding trick, the search for misspelled auction title bluff, the needing stuff no one else should need quirk... And still, those darned BLADE RUNNER cars are like the Holy Grail!
EVERYONE GET OFF eBAY AND LET ME WIN SOMETHING FOR ONCE!

Hey Micah, you just need to bid a little higher.

Then eBay's not a deal. I need a deal.

Micah, at e-bay I got a decent deal on the 7600's and 650 sub for $1275 (not including shipping), and paid $1,150 for the Onkyo 898. I just bided my time, was in no hurry to buy, and it worled out for me

I've gotten some great great steals on eBay, no doubt. I just get tired of waiting for that special, unnoticed auction that's gonna give me the win I want. It gets frustrating.
Anyone have any new strategies?it worled out for me

Here's a cut and paste from an article on an on-line auction study:
Online auction study reveals bidding tips
17:14 06 November 01 Duncan Graham-Rowe
A three-year survey of the bidding behaviour on an online auction site has revealed things to avoid if you want to grab a bargain: lots that are illustrated, lots from regular sellers, weekend bidding and long auctions.
The research, conducted on eBay, the Californian-based site, showed that if you buy an item that is illustrated with a photograph, it could set you back by an extra 11 per cent, compared to a similar item without a picture. And merchandise sold during the weekend consistently costs about two per cent more.
The study, conducted by Charles Wood, at the Mendoza School of Business at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana and colleagues at the University of Minnesota, looked specifically at the sale of coins on eBay from 1999 to 2001. They presented their findings at the Institute for Operations Research and Management Sciences conference in Miami, Florida.
In addition to the weekend and picture effects, they found that auctions that last longer attract more bidders and end up attracting higher sale prices. Experience also seems to play a hand. More experienced sellers are able to attract higher bids, based on their reputation as a seller.
Recreation vs business
William Robinson, head of Islamic art, rugs and carpets at real-world auctioneers Christies in London, says the study's conclusions ring true.
In live auctions, he says, reputation tends to help push the price up, whether it is the reputation of the auction house or the auctioneer. "They do make a difference, because the buyers feel comfortable with them," he says.
Similarly people appear to be willing to pay more during evening sales than during the day, says Robinson. This is because evening auctions are more about recreation than business, and people are more willing to push the boat out when buying for themselves, he says.
Evening sales also tend to get more people in the room. "And a heaving room is certainly always a good start," he says.

most people who win at the last minute use cable or dsl connection they get the faster refresh rate to bid alot
quicker. i found that out the hard way i was watching a
auction for 1 week and at the last minute some sob beat me out
so if you are going to play the auction game, have the right tools
for the job.

i find bidding on auctions that end at obscure times sometimes helps. like stuff in the middle of the nite on wednesday. i know that it is always daytime somewhere in the ebay bidding world, but the US is the biggest market on there. so just bid what you wnat to pay, go to sleep and check it in the morning. sometime, you will get it for what you want to pay for it.

Just do what I do. Drink too much and bid high on stuff you don't need. BTW: Anybody need a pair of Altec Lansing Segovias? Mine are being FedExxed right now.Make it Funky!
