Need Help w/ Monitor 70
Thanks to all here, I got a pair of Monitor 70's from Newegg.
I hooked them up for 2 channel listening with a friend yesterday and they don't sound very good.
I have them hooked to a Harman Kardon AVR-347. I know that I have yet to run the setup via the receiver so that might just cure all. Right now it feels as if there is a hole in the midrange.
Maybe it's me. I have never run anything but a 2 channel receiver before so maybe an AV receiver is no good?
I heard the TSi500 with a center and a sub. Without the center and sub they sounded pretty good so I was sure these would sound similar. I will be adding a center and a sub when I have some more cash down the line .
Thanks for the help in advance.

Welcome to CP. Sorry I can't offer much first hand advice for you, but I think there are many here that run that same combo and report great results. You are right the Mon 70 and TSi500 would have a similar sound. I suspect maybe a set up issue. What is your source? Run the set up on the HK, confirm all your connections and make sure the jumper strap is in place and tight on your speaker terminals. I'm sure others with the same set up as yours will chime in with more detailed advice, hang in there and good luck.

M-70s are not radically different from TSI-500s...not enough to sound the way you describe. And the HK and the M-70s are fairly musical so something is not right....have you used an AVR before? Perhaps you do NOT have the L/R channels set up for FULL BAND or LARGE speakers? That would be a GOOD bet from your description...If you're running in 2 channel and the speakers are, say cut off at 100hz or higher....you're not going to get a FULL sound, they'll sound more like small bookshelves?
Check your documentation! I've run M-70s off an Onkyo TX-SR805 and they sound fine in two channels; admittedly the 805 will trounce the HK power-wise...but the HK does have enough power to run these!
And they should sound OK!
Your SOURCE is also important...what are you listening to? A CD, Vinyl, DVDs, Blu-rays...and on what equipment??

Thanks for the replies. I ran the set-up and things sound much better.
Anybody else with similar equipment with advice for me would be much appreciated.
Adios -
I own both the Monitor 70's and the TSi 500's, and while I prefer the 70's there really isn't a knock your socks off difference between the two. I run my HT off the Onkyo TX-SR806 with great results. If you ran the setup program and things sound better, that may be all you will be able to get out of the HK, the 70's are a very efficent speaker and are very easy to drive. Good luck and welceom to Club Polk.
