I wonder if cat obedience training exists, or if it's even possible. Teach your dog to bring you the remote.

Are you talking about classes? So far I am training my pup out of the book 101 Dog Tricks (highly recommended). The book is phenomenal:

He's got a lot of stuff down pat already and is only 11 weeks old. I haven't decided on classes yet, but it can't hurt. Can't wait to field train him.

Im taking her to Pet Smart - the trainer there is really good and has taught me alot about dogs, the care of dogs and how to train them - well worth the time, money and effort

Yeah, classes are great, especially when you have a good trainer like you have.

Figuring out the psychology of dogs is half the battle. Then its being consistent and not getting frustrated.

Whenever a dog does something wrong its basically your fault -- they're just being dogs and we're trying to adapt them to the human world. Once they get it its amazing.

    Good luck and enjoy it.

I too did the Dog training at PetsMart when I got my dog two years ago and he was about a year old, zero training, barely potty trained Jack Russell mix. He was borderline a maniac and out of control. After we did this training, we just took that and kept with it to this day and he's by far one of the best dogs without going to a full on service dog. He's damn smart (Jack's are 3rd smartest IIRC) and loves to please. I've actually been considering becoming a trainer because of this whole experience. He's my first dog as my own and he's changed me as much as I've changed him.

Its really just training humans to train dogs

    ^^This^^

Did classes for the first year with my Dane. It was worth it at twice the price.

It not only teaches you how to train and motivate the dog, more importantly, it socializes the pooch with other dogs. You know the dogs that bark, growl and snap at other dogs? 90% of the time it's because they weren't exposed to other dogs early on.

It also seems to stimulate the dog mentally, to the point where teaching him other things becomes almost too easy. My dog had around a dozen different toys. We taught him a name for each, some sounded very similar to each other, (ball, football, tennis ball) he knows the difference and will retrieve the correct one on command every time.

Can't recommend classes strongly enough, and ya gotta put in the time!

We did the petsmart training with willow. When we adored Rudy we hired a company called barkbusters who come to your house and spend as time as you need. They were at our place for 5 hrs. The best part is it's for the life of the dogs. 2 yrs from now if we need them we call them up they come in to help us out.

Trey, wait till she gets older, you will be able to teach her how to talk. No kidding!

We taught Moose to talk with in certain ways. When you hold a treat in your hand and ask him if he wants this, he, in a low growl, says, "I want that!"

It is amazing what these labs and lab mixes especially mixed with border collie can do. We still teach him tricks and after the second try he get it down pat. When we call someone to sing happy birthday to them on the telephone he joins in. Now it doesn't sound like he is singing happy birthday but he knows what we are doing and joins right in. It is really funny.

Dave (Demi) you'll be able to do the same with that cutie you have.
