Monitor 5 Stands?

I'm looking for a bit of help regarding some speaker stands. I have a pair of Monitor 5's that sound horrible and wanted to build a simple stand to get them up off the floor and angled up. Does anyone have the designs for the original Monitor 5 stands? I'll be making the stands out of wood.

I actually want/need to make 2 sets of stands; one for floor use and one for desk use. I heard that the angle changes based on their height, and the height effects bass response. I noted the same where the Monitor 5's were very boomy when flat on the floor.

Thanks,
Bob

Resurrecting an old question because I suddenly have the same one! Does anyone have information on what a floor stand for the Monitor 5 would be like? I'm assuming the same 6 degree angle that I've been able to find in other posts. Now, what about height? Is the goal getting the tweeter to "ear level?"
    Thanks for the help!

i don't know about building your own but if you think you may want a short stand i came across these:

i'm sure there is a US store that carries them as well.

Thanks for the info! Yes, I'm planning on building my own, but at around $40 USD... I may rethink that!
So, I know that the Monitor 10's I see are all angled back. Is that because, even on a stand, the tweeter ends up too low, and everything else even lower still (time/distance alignment)? I guess I'm wondering if the monitor series speakers are SUPPOSED to be using the boundry effect of the floor. On a stand, how high up is the tweeter on a Mon 10? And then, are the tweets on the 12, 7 and 5, on their stands, at that same hight? I've gotta go hunt down some pics!

Placing the tweeter at near ear height is preferred. The tilt back was designed to help time align the tweeter and woofers so they actually exist in the same vertical plane.

I posted that info some time back, and I think I included pictures. Try doing a search, and if you still can't find it, I'll be happy to send the measurements to you.

Btw, I have the original stands that came with my Monitor 5's when I purchased them new.

    Hi Mark:

I hope are still monitoring this site.

I have some Series 5 that I inherited and am looking for either the original stands or stands that will work with them.

Can you post a picture of the stands, or, if convenient, email me some pictures?

    Regards,

    Jim

Any stands that bring the tweeter to ear height will work.

You'd be much better off by buying or making stands that bring the tweeter up to ear height.

    Glad to be of assistance.

Full disclosure: I posted those images because measurements were requested, but I agree with F1nut as to placement.
I can understand someone wanting to fully recreate the original experience, but these speakers will absolutely benefit from being elevated as suggested.

Won’t elevating them kill the bass response??

No. What kills the bass is moving them too far out into the room.

This is the back story on the short tilted stands. Polk wanted to offer stands for the smaller models, but were afraid of the WAF of tall stands, so the short stand was born. They had to back tilt them in order for the tweeter to be aimed at the listeners ears. That's it, nothing special or magical about them.

Viking64, I’m on this site several times each week. I mostly read unless it pertains to the Monitor 5. I do have the original stands from 1988. 2tudrcve3s62.jpeg

I put Dynamat on the plates that the 5’s sit on to reduce the vibration going to the floor. I also filled the bases with sand. Those yellow bags are filled, and the plastic straw going down the center allowed me to insert the bolt that attaches the plate to the base by keeping the sand filled bags from covering the thread at the bottom. Having done all the modifications to the speakers themselves - with the exception of Larry’s rings - I’m quite satisfied with the sound.

The best thing I could have done is upgrade the tweeters and the internals.
