Frankenstein SDAs

As most of you know I bought a pair of SDAs on Craigslist some time back. Most of the mids and I think all but 1 tweeter do not work. I do have a pair of mint Monitor 10s and a pair of Mon 7s. I was thinking of taking the mids and tweeters out of the Monitors and putting them in the Sdas. The SDAs have 3 mids each and 2 tweeters each.

Depends on what SDAs you got and what 10s and 7s you have. The drivers were made for specific models and all sound different. Some do crossover Need to know what model speakers you have

The 7s are 7Cs, the Monitor 10 just have Montor 10 on the back. The SDAs are SDA II

to the best of my knowledge, 7s and 10s never had 6600x, which i believe your sda2's will have. could be wrong though.

I took a driver out of one of the SDAs and it is a 6501, The back of the speaker indicated a check for M 10 as well as SDA 1 and SDA II. I think my Monitor 10s and 7Cs both have 6501 mids in them. This could work. Not sure it is worth the effort since I am pretty sure the SDAs are leaking air like water through a sieve.

Leaking air can easily be fixed. Where are they leaking?

Do you know if the crossovers in the SDAs are working properly?

    If yes, try it.

If not, then you're wasting more time than you can imagine.

I do not know where they are leaking, also do not know how to check for good crossovers, can someone tell me? Thanks

Tighten down all the drivers and the crossover cup on the back, then check again for leakage.

As for the crossover, check for any obvious problems, bulging caps, burnt resistors, etc...

You are testing them with the SDA interconnect in place and are using a common ground amp, right?

Yes the cable is connected and the Receiver is my Onkyo 7.1 channel. Not sure is this is a common ground type. I could hook them up to my Technics SA-600 to see what happens,, it is 70 WPC I think. So to look at the crossover, I remove the crossover cup and look at it? Excuse my lack of knowledge.

I believe you may have to pull the PR to check out the crossover.

These are not worth messing with. There are tears on a few of the mids on the rubber butyl surrounds. I would be willing to let them go cheap, say 40 or 50.00. Local pickup in Huntersville, NC

Just FYI - if the cable is not working, the dimensional driver and the tweeter above it will not work.

Which driver is the dimensional drive?

They must be the drivers below the tweeters. I guess

In each channel, you should have one tweeter and one mid driver stacked over the outside, then one tweeter and two dimensional drivers on the inside. The outside drivers of each cabinet are the dimensional drivers.
