I just got word from the layout editor that the June issue is finally out. Here are some of the highlights:
Neuhaus Labs Integrated Tube Amp with built-in DAC
ATC SCM 11 speakers
Aperion/Soundmatters SLIMstage30 sound bar
Part two of the Ken Kessler interview including some provocative opinions about speakers.
As always each issue is a free download, just follow on the link and click on the image of new issue.

Loved the Ken Pantor interview, especially this line about full range drivers(not surprising to me at all by the way)..."There are full-range electrostatics that have no crossover in them that are very justifiable. Then there are full-range dynamic driver systems that are passionately advocated by people who are more proud of their eccentricity then they are critical of their sound. Get a life."

    Hello,
I, also, found the interview interesting and challenging. Here is Mr. Kantor's response to a question about trying to change "the old guard":
    "SW: The old guard?
KK: Right, which is just going to lead you into interminable and occasionally productive, but mostly psychotic arguments
    and off-the-mark evangelism.
SW: Like with the various online forums?
KK: I don't think the essential paradigms are different between the sites, merely the particular fetishes and gurus
chosen. It's like the thong pantie site verses the black lace site. There aren't too many sites out there where people
are talking about basic issues of theory, or giving beginners really helpful gear information free of hazing rituals and
    that isn’t a total turnoff"
    Any comments?
    Cheers, Ken

These thong pantie (sic) and black lace sites... anyone got a link?

Ken Kantor pops up more than occasionally at AK and is always a breath of fresh air in some deeply-entrenched debates (I use the term loosely, almost ironically) on issues of loudspeaker design.

Must be something about guys named Ken...

I think we all go through an absolute "truth" phase in hi-fi, thinking it will be the next holy grail; then we grow up and realize what we knew all along to be true....musicality is the only thing that matters. If I never own another "accurate" component in my life--it'll be too soon.

I also totally support/agree with the concept that people spend way too much money on accessories, when this money would have been far better spent on solid base components--ie, $300 cables on a $600 CD player. Way too much emphasis on the largely unimportant.

All of this falls squarely into the "what is high-end" debate. IMO, to say you have to spend "x" amount of dollars to have a musically satisfying system, is just nonsense.

    1) If there were absolute truth in hifi... there'd be far less stuff in my house.

    2) there's often a difference between cost and value.
