I picked up a pair for $8.00 at a garage sale they are in great shape (9 out of 10). I am woundering about how to use them with my Pioneer vsx-d711 receiver. The manual says that the receiver is looking for 8 to 16 ohm speakers, could i run the speakers in series as a center channel? any advise would help.

Welcome to Club Polk.
Are you saying that they are ported ???
They would work as centers. A dedicated center has different crossover points. Better off with a dedicated center IMO. -
Yes they are ported (no radiator).

That's the only way you should run them without a new amp. -

Stand corrected. Never new they had a 5jr that was ported. -
Original 5JR's were ported. The 5JR+'s (SL2000) and later 5JR+ Series 2's (SL2500) had a 6.5" passive radiator.polkaudio Monitor 5 Series II

Well the sticker on the back says 5JR.

Are there any home built cabinets or any drawings showing the existing cabinet to make a copy that I could make out of MDF or a Hardwood?

Not that I know of; most all of that would be hand-measured, I'd assume. Outer dimensions are one thing, but driver positioning is another.polkaudio Monitor 5 Series II
